The first impression that the Honda TMX125 Alpha creates in the mind of people is of a bare-basic, simple-looking motorcycle, which is not made for people who value modern-day features and aesthetics. The overall old-school design of the Honda TMX125 Alpha can take you down the memory lanes of the past, which evokes a sense of nostalgia but might not appear as desirable to many.

At the front, the Honda TMX125 Alpha has a simple rectangular halogen headlamp, which has horizontal clamps attached to its sides that serve as mounts for the rectangular amber turn indicators. The headlamp comes with chrome surrounds and has a chrome plate between the front forks below it, which reads out the brand’s name.

The side profile of the Honda TMX125 Alpha also screams nostalgia for the decades flown in the past, with it having a design which reminds you of the previous-generation carburetted motorcycles. Here, the Honda TMX125 Alpha showcases its simplicity with the satin silver rounded front and rear fenders and spoke wheels. The long fuel tank has a slim and angular design, which is devoid of body decals. Even the engine and shroud for the blacked-out exhaust pipe have a grey finish like that of the fenders.

The Honda TMX125 Alpha comes with angular, trapezoidal side body cowls, which read out the name of the motorcycle along with a few graphics. Towards the rear, the motorcycle misses out on functional body panels for the tail section, with a squared halogen tail lamp and rectangular turn indicators placed at the rear.

The Honda TMX125 Alpha also comes with a very basic-looking all-analogue instrument console, which comes only with the basics, including twin analogue pods for the speedometer and tachometer, along with an odometer. It doesn’t get a fuel gauge but has an electric starter which adds to the convenience. The build quality and fit and finish levels are not too great, but justify its asking price.

The Honda TMX125 Alpha might be a basic-looking motorcycle in its appearance, but it is this basic stance which also helps it in making it an effortless motorcycle to ride. With a kerb weight of just 113 kg, the Honda TMX125 Alpha is one of the lightest entry-level commuters.

To keep the costs in check, Honda has equipped the TMX125 Alpha with conventional telescopic forks at the front and non-adjustable hydraulic coil springs at the rear. The almost flat seat of the motorcycle might look basic but is roomy enough for two adults, which can find it decently comfortable for short city commutes.

At the bottom of the rear shocks, the motorcycle comes with a clamp, which offers you the provision of equipping the motorcycle with additional coil springs in case you want them. With 2.50-18 front and 2.75-18 rear tube-type tyres, the Honda TMX125 Alpha also has functional drum brakes at both front and rear which offer decent feedback.

The prime highlight of the Honda TMX125 Alpha is its single-cylinder, air-cooled, 125cc engine, which is paired to a 5-speed transmission, and produces 7.16 PS of maximum power and 9.1 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is renowned for its impressive fuel efficiency, as Honda claims a maximum fuel efficiency figure of 62.5 kmpl at a constant speed of 45 kmph for the TMX125 Alpha.

Don’t expect the Honda TMX125 Alpha to come with premium safety features, let alone a dual-channel ABS which has become essential in today’s day and age.

The Honda TMX125 Alpha is purely not for youngsters, who will discard its extremely basic and outdated design the moment they have a glance at it. Instead, this entry-level commuter motorcycle is targeted at those efficiency-centric buyers, who want an affordable and reliable solution for their everyday heavy-duty commutes.
