The Honda TMX Supremo has been a veteran in the Philippines market. Providing us with tricycle functionality when and where needed, along with being a decent daily commuting motorcycle that can also pull some weight without a fuss. In its 3rd generation now, the motorcycle has been a seasoned campaigner. With up to date graphics, and workhorse kind of parts, which will be on your side day and night, the TMX Supremo is a perfect, not so large utilitarian motorcycle.
The Honda TMX Supremo, continuing its legacy since 2012 hasn’t gone through much changes in terms of physical appearance. One could say exceptional changes were not even needed. The 3rd-gen model of the TMX Supremo comes with stylish graphics in Black and Red color options which help it cope with the competitive market, and that is all about it. The design of the motorcycle is not so different from what it initially looked like when it stepped on the road for the first time. There are 18-inch spoked wheels which provide a retro look to the multi-utility two-wheeler. The instrument console is updated but lags way behind others in the market. Speedometer, tachometer, odometer, and even the fuel indicator, all are analogue units. Surprisingly, there is a gear indicator right in between the rpm gauge and the speedo. The seat, though roomy enough for two and decently comfortable is flat and lacks in urging one to try out the TMX Supremo. You do get an electric start and a pass switch, along with an easy to access mechanical choke on the left handlebar for those cold mornings. The keyhole also comes with a secured key shutter. The factory fit 3-point sidecar attachment is no less than a blessing by Honda making the sidecar attachment effortless.
The telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear take care of absorbing the bumps and provide a smooth ride. The suspension setup is certainly better than the previous generation models where it was on the harder side. Weighing at 121 kgs (dry), the Honda two-wheeler is easy to flick around and should not bother the rider even with the sidecar attached.
The latest TMX Supremo gets its power from a 4-stroke air-cooled 150cc gasoline-fed engine. Fuel is fed via a carburetor and there is no electronic fuel injection. Power produced measures at 11.18 PS at 7,500 rpm and 11.6 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. Duties of power delivery to the rear wheel are assigned to a 5-speed constant mesh manual transmission. While you won’t be getting any thrill, there is enough power to keep up with the traffic and do all the other assigned tasks. The TMX Supremo returns a mileage of 45 kmpl in the city and 55 kmpl on the highway. While the mileage numbers look good, to complement them is a small 10.3-litre fuel tank, which could’ve been a bit bigger.
Do not take the TMX Supremo at higher speeds in harsh conditions, as there are only drum brakes at both front and rear for the rescue. Honda did not even consider putting in disc brakes in the latest generation of the popular motorcycle, let alone ABS. However, the braking performance of the drums is decent enough at adequate speeds in the city. And with no intentions from Honda to take this motorcycle on track, along with keeping the prices within reach and competitive, the brakes should do the job more often than not.
Looking for a multi-utility two-wheeler? Go nowhere but to a Honda showroom and try the TMX Supremo. The motorcycle does a great job of being a tricycle, daily commuter, and even a luggage bearer. A better design along with disc brakes and some features here and there could’ve made the 3rd-gen Supremo best in class, but the offering here by Honda is decent and does the job without any frills.
