TVS XL 100

Though it is just a tiny little moped, yet the TVA XL 100 has styling and features that makes it look appealing. Dimension wise, the XL 100 measures 2020 mm long and 1110 mm high. It rides on 16-inch spoked wheels on each end with 2.50 - 16 41L 6PR tyres. The front profile has round headlights with plastic instrument surrounded by handlebars. The front beam houses the fuel tank which makes the footboard looks broad. The front width goes on to the tail section and gest merged with a large rack at the rear. Though the bike is priced cheaply, the quality of the materials used is not of cheap quality but is good with finishing. 

Regarding the split-seat of the bike, it is very conventional in design with just the right function and riding. The seat cushions are thick, wide, and firm, ready to deliver comfort on rougher roads. There are a few hidden surprises below the seat which includes some graphics. A prominent feature that points to the XL100’s utilitarian roots is the detachable passenger seat. It can be popped off with a turn of the seat lock, to unlock a flat, sturdy steel platform ready to be used as a carrier system, which is very thoughtfully designed keeping in mind the business segment.  There are two colours to choose from – black and red.

TVS XL 100 offers a decent ride, all thanks to its suspension set-up. The bike rides on 16-inch tires which offers a firm grip even on rough and poorly maintained surfaces. The braking duties are also handled by 110mm drum brakes that gives the bike adequate stopping power. These two are mated up to a sync brake system (SBS), which engages both brakes even when you’re only pulling on the rear brake lever. TVS XL 100 uses under-bone chassis with telescopic spring shock absorbers at the front and swing arm with hydraulic shocks in the rear. The bike offers a very relaxed and upright riding position and front footrest area is very spacious. 

The XL100 Premium is powered by a Euro 3-compliant 99.7cc four-stroke, single-cylinder engine that produces 4.3 hp at 6000 rpm and 6.5 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm. The engine is mated to a single speed transmission through a wet centrifugal clutch. Though the bike weighs around 86kg but still the engine churns out smooth power around 30-40 kmph. At full throttle, it peaks at 60 kmph. This engine has some performance limits, especially during throttle, but the upside is better fuel economy, which is around 67 kmpl. The fuel tank can hold 4.0-litre. There is however no electric start option on this bike but kick start is your only option and can take quite some effort.

The bike comes with disc brakes on both ends. There are 80 mm drum brakes at the front and a 110 mm drum brakes at the rear. The brakes function well but no high-speed braking stunts can be performed here.

The TVS XL100 Premium appeals to a very specific crowd. Its most logical customers are multi-utility businesses that need long-lasting, easily serviceable, and customizable vehicles for their business commutes. It is not stylish, fast or of very high quality but is fuss-free, economical, and practical. With the price tag, the moped is something you would not regret buying.
