2018 Mazda MX-5: Top five highlights

2018 Mazda MX-5: Top five highlights

Mazdas are one cool customer cars. Most of the Mazdas in the world are brought for their pure driver connect and the emotion attached to them. Read reviews all over and you will realise that the Mazda series of cars have always been praised for the way they feel to drive. Out of all the cars Mazda has to offer, the MX-5 is the most involving to drive. In its fourth generation now, the Mazda MX-5 gets an RF moniker. The RF stands for Retractable roof Fastback. These signify the hardtop design as well as the fastback coupe-like styling. Available from Php 1,880,000 to Php 2,300,000 for the RF trim, the Mazda MX-5 makes sense as an affordable sportscar. Without further ado, here are five reasons why you should consider this car

1) Looks

MX-5

Can’t afford that Porsche you were eyeing, even as a used car, then the Mazda MX-5 makes pure sense for you. Priced at a fraction of the Porsche’s price,  the MX-5 offers the same experience albeit with a lower power and not-so-premium interiors. It has been observed by many MX-5 owners that chicks dig the puny Mazda more than the Porsche. Its cute appearance and the sub-4m length that can fit into most parking spots is something that adds value to the equation. Hey, in fact, one sits lower in the Mazda than in a Porsche.

2) Engine

2018 Mazda MX-5 Engine

Mazda has been known to make rotary engines and these kind of feel different while driving. In a good way that is. You feel more connected to the entire experience rather than let a couple of electronic nannies take care of you. The 4-cylinder 2,000cc petrol motor makes 160 PS at 6,000 rpm power and peak torque of 200 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Mazda gives customers the option of a 6-speed manual or an automatic. Most of the luxury car manufacturers offer their vehicles with only an automatic whereas, Mazda is one of those few ones who offer it with a manual too. The fuel tank capacity is 45 litres and coupled to the frugal nature of this high-revving engine, it is but natural that owners not only save money during the buying process but also in daily running.

3) Higher resale value

2018 Mazda MX-5 Side

The Mazda MX-5 is known to have a higher resale value. Models which have done close to five years still hold their residual value well enough. In fact, it is very rare to find a 5-year old used Mazda for less than Php 15,000,00. So, owners who are looking to upgrade or perhaps just sell off their old MX-5s will not be in for a rude shock at the counter. Opt for a trade-in and Mazda may even throw in a healthy discount on your new Mazda car.

4) Features

2018 MX-5 Cabin

The Mazda MX-5 may look bare basic but has all the trappings one could ever ask for. For example, there are four trims on offer- one each of the manual as well as automatic in RF and Soft Top guise. Discs at the front and rear, limited slip differential, 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, LED DRL, leather-wrapped steering with tilt function, 7-inch touchscreen music system that also has USB, 12V power supply, and AUX input along with Bluetooth, Anti Lock Brakes along with Electronic Brake Distribution, Dynamic Stability Control, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors and keyless entry. Mazda also gives a stop-start, brake energy recuperation as well as a three-year free periodic maintenance package.

5) Ride and handling

2018 MX-5 Rear

The suspension components of the new Mazda MX-5 are made up of double wishbone for the front and independent multi-link for the rear. Owners of the previous-gen Mazda MX-5s have always maintained that this is one of the most usable sportscars ever made. It is an everyday car that takes on the track as well as city trundle equally well. The ride quality is not jarry unlike other sportscars and neither is it too sloppy to be at its wits end on a race track. The steering itself is a very communicative unit and tells the driver what the front wheels are up to. All in all a very good package.

There you have. The five reasons which should make you run to the nearest Mazda dealer and book one for yourself. However, it may be noted that the cabin isn’t the most spacious and if you are 5’10 or above, then its better to look at the car from a distance rather than buying it.
