A new Mini is in town, so grace yourself to meet the 2016 Mini Convertible that recently made its Philippines debut on 6th May 2016 at Bonifacio Global City dealership. With its entry the limited Mini line-up of six cars has now extended further, giving the consumers a wider spectrum to choose from. This car is new for the Philippines audience but in the global market the car has been ruling for a year now, and it had got its share of both praises and criticism. It's time now to see how this open-top hatchback will be treated in the Philippines. Will it be able to make it to make it to the doors of the riches or will it only get to meet the showroom dust? Only the time will tell.
Get in and experience the best of Mini till date. The cabin area is designed with a dual tone color shade of black and orange, thus carrying its peppy nature within. But apart from being jolly, it also houses some serious tech machines that prove advantageous both the driver and co-passenger. For instance, there is a new Rain Warner feature that helps the driver to stay ahead of the storm, also, there is an Always Open Timer 'the feel-good-o-meter' that measures the total time you have driven with car's roof down. Talking about its space aspect, the car can stuff in a lot, it has 215 litres of boot space that can be extended to 160 litres with its roof down. In addition, making the entire luggage storage process easy is its Easy Load Function that pushes up the roof base, thus making the storage easy like never before. All this apart, talking about its open-top feature, it works in three ways, first of all, it can be deployed fully is less than 18 seconds of time frame, then while on the move you can also activate this feature (with speed up to 30 km/h) and lastly, it also acts an open sunroof (wherein the middle portion of the soft-top deploys).
Like all the Mini cars this one too withholds a distinguishing body composition and as can be noticed, borrows some designing clues from the current generation Mini F56. Starting with its front profile, this Mini gets the brand signature grille that is topped with oval hood-integrated headlamps with DRL, also are present are circular crystal like fog lamps and sleek air vents. Moving on to the side profile are present features like black cladding across the car length, chrome door handles and fuel lid, and 17-inch alloy wheels that are coated with Michelin Primacy tires. The rear end gets restyled taillights with chrome boundaries, centre mounted twin exhaust pipe and a chrome boot lid with Mini impression. On the dimension front, the car reads 3,821 mm in length, 1,727 mm in width and 1,415 mm in height.
2016 Mini Convertible is offered in two trim, named as Mini Cooper Convertible and Mini Cooper S Convertible. Both these variants are bestowed with a distinct set of power mill that is peacefully housed under their stylish hood. The Cooper S variant is powered by a 2.0L TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder mill generating a maximum power of 192 PS along with a peak torque figure of 280 Nm. The said mill is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. Talking about its performance figure it goes from 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds after achieving the top speed of 228 km/h. Coming to its John Cooper Works variant it is fitted with a 2.0L TwinPower Turbo engine that effortlessly generates 231 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. This mill like its sibling variant is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds with a top speed of 239 km/h.
So, like all the other Mini's this one also houses the best available on the safety front, keeping the passengers safe and sound. In addition to mainstream features like Park Distance Control, Driving Assistance System, Mini Head-up Display, and Reverse Camera, Mini Convertible comes with fully-integrated rollover protection system.
Mini Convertible is an expensive car build for the elite class but all the money poured in is worth spending. With it, you get an all-time stylish and spacious car. The only cons we detected in this car is it becomes a bit noisy with its roof down and it has a clumsy rear seating area.
The Mini Convertible is actually the Mini 3-door with an open top. It’s the most affordable open top car in the market. Convertibles from BMW and Mercedes are far more expensive. The Mini convertible is for those who want a more pocket friendly option. The car is fun to drive as well. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine livens up even the
Sporty handling, a premium cabin, and energetic engine options make the Mini Convertible a nice car in its class. If you’re looking for a compact car with athletic handling, strong brakes, a responsive steering and prompt acceleration then the Mini Convertible should be on your list. But the cargo space is far from optimum and the seating is rather tight
The Mini Convertible is one of the sportiest vehicles in the country according to my opinion. The beautiful open-top body of this Mini offers an excellent wind-in-the-hair experience which is why I love driving it around frequently. In addition to this, the top can be raised or lowered in under 20 seconds which comes as a plus point. Under the
