One brand with an entry into the said segment is Great Wall Motor (GWM) Philippines. Specifically, it currently offers the Ora 03 at P1.358 million for the entry-level 400 trim, and P1.778 million for the top-spec 500 variant. 

From the get-go, the GWM Ora 03 boasts several commendable qualities, despite its very compact stature. But, what are the similarly priced alternatives to the GWM-made electric vehicle? Let’s find out here. 

GWM Ora 03

Before listing down the key rivals of the GWM Ora 03, let us first take stock of its features and specifications. 

For its powertrain, the GWM Ora 03 utilizes a single electric motor setup, which on the top-spec 500, is paired with a 63-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. Propelling the Nammi is a permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a 42.3 kWh battery. At maximum, it can send up to 93 hp and 160 Nm of torque to its front wheels. It also uses a single-speed transmission. 

From a single full charge, the Dongfeng model can cover up to 430 km, according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

Power is sent to its front wheels via a single-speed direct drive transmission. The model is also capable of covering up to 505 kilometers, according to the CLTC.

Also close in price to the GWM Ora 03 is the BYD Dolphin. Specifically, the said model retails in the Philippines at P1.398 million. 

Concerning powertrains, the BYD Dolphin uses a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that can produce up to 93 hp and 180 Nm of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels, and it also has a range of 405 km, according to the New European Driving Cycle.

The BYD nameplate’s lineup of exterior equipment includes full LED lighting, puddle lamps, a rear windshield defogger, and a set of 16-inch alloy wheels. 

Inside the BYD Dolphin is a five-seater setup equipped with leather seats and an automatic climate control system. Its driver also has access to an electronic parking brake, a five-inch digital gauge, keyless entry, a push-to-start button, and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel. 

For its main central infotainment system, the BYD-made hatch comes with a 12.8-inch rotating display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a Dirac six-piece sound system, 4G connectivity, a voice assistant, and access to the BYD Cloud Service (smartphone app). Charging inside the vehicle is done through a series of USB ports and a 12-volt accessory outlet. 

Safety-wise, the BYD Dolphin was kitted out with dual front airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, ISOFIX, electronic stability control, traction control, a comfortable stop system, hill-start hold control, and tire pressure monitoring - among others. 

Final thoughts

Based on the specs above, the GWM Ora 03 has a power advantage over its competitors. A few others may boast more range, but the GWM nameplate is definitely up there when it comes to making power. In addition, the said model is up to par against its rivals when it comes to tech and safety. 

With a good balance of performance and amenities, the GWM Ora 03 looks like a good buy. People who are looking into getting the GWM model, however, should take it out for a test drive first. Doing so is good car-buying practice, and it will make one more acquainted with the vehicle than just reading specs on the internet.
