10th PEVS: BYD presents Dolphin hatch and Tang crossover

MANILA: On display at the BYD booth — at the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) staged at the SMX Convention Center — were the Dolphin hatchback and Tang crossover.

A single charge lasts 300 kilometers in the five-door electric hatchback known as the BYD Dolphin.

The BYD Dolphin is powered by an AC permanent magnet synchronous motor paired to a BYD Blade Battery LFP. The motor generates 70kW and 180Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the battery has a capacity of 44.9kWh and it can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes through DC fast charging.

Aside from being energy-efficient, the Dolphin is also packed with advanced safety features. These include electronic stability program (ESP), electric parking brake (EPB), traction control system (TCS), controlled deceleration for parking brake (CDP), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), hill-start hold control (HHC), and a rearview camera.

Meanwhile, BYD describes the BYD Tang as sporting a “harmony of style and efficiency.”

BYD's head designer, Wolfgang Egger, worked with a top-notch design team to incorporate these characteristics into the BYD Tang's design, which combines exceptional workmanship, dynamism, and sleekness. Dragons are symbols of strong and auspicious abilities.

BYD's benchmark IGBT technology ensures the Tang’s durability, power delivery smoothness and energy efficiency. This sleekly designed SUV packs 380kw of power, a zero to 100kph time of 4.6 seconds, a top speed of 180kph, and an estimated range of 400kms from its Blade Battery.

Since BYD has been a pioneering name in the battery industry for more than 27 years, the Chinese carmaker’s latest game-changing Blade Battery has passed a series of extreme tests in rigorous conditions, making it one of the world's safest batteries.

Engineered with German expertise, the BYD Tang features all-aluminum, independent front and rear suspension with fast reaction, high performance and reduced weight. The chassis provides constant comfort, stability and smoothness regardless of vehicle speed.

The BYD Real-Time Electric All-Wheel Drive provides automatic switching between two different modes – Front Wheel Drive (FWD) for better energy efficiency and All Wheel Drive (AWD) for better grip.

For smoother braking and to allow the crossover to stop from 100kph to a halt in just 36-meters, the BYD Tang comes with Bosch IPB system and high performance Brembo calipers as standard.

Inside, the seven-seat Tang offers a cavernous 1,655 liters of cargo space behind the front row seats, while 60/40 split, fold-flat rear seats increase the flexibility factor to ensure that everything can be carried along the adventure.

Since BYD wants to make driving a sensory experience and to suit all drivers’ moods, the BYD Tang is equipped with 31-color ambient lights throughout the interior. A high-end sound system includes 12 loud-speakers plus DIRAC Live function, providing a pristine, natural sound to satisfy the driver and passengers’ auditory needs and delivers a true theater experience.

For drivers and passengers to be fully immersed in the experience with total peace-of-mind, the BYD Tang is equipped with the latest driver-assist equipment, including 25 state-of-the-art safety features like 360-degree HD surround view camera, 11 outdoor radars and ADAS system.

BYD, which stands for "Build Your Dreams," has been the most active of all the carmakers that use grid electricity to charge their vehicles. They have been at the forefront of China's "EV-olution" and are making an impact around the world. They have also been developing vehicles with EV maximum speeds of over 100kph, allowing this new energy vehicle to be highway capable.

In the Philippines, BYD is distributed by Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp.

In a release, the company said it is also offering plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) that have both a gasoline engine and an electric motor. The PHEV has two modes.

In pure EV mode, the vehicle can travel up to 50km in electric power alone. When the battery runs out of charge, the gas engine can act as a generator. In Hybrid Mode, the vehicle intelligently switches from battery to gas engine power.
