2019 Honda Accord – All you need to know

It’s been 30 years since the Japanese carmaker released the Honda Accord. Despite being their second oldest model, the midsize sedan doesn’t feel like it has aged at all with its ongoing updates and undying popularity.

The five-seater is Honda Philippines’ offering for the executive sedan segment, though it also doubles as a family sedan. Currently, in its 10th generation, it debuted early this year at the 2019 Bangkok International Motor Show with a fresh look, some significant updates, and a new set of features.

With the latest variant available in the Philippine market, here’s everything you need to know about the 2019 Honda Accord.

2019 Honda Accord Exterior

The all-new Accord still exudes the same elegance of its predecessors, albeit with an athletic touch. It borrows inspiration from the smaller Honda Civic as well as the semi-fastback styling found in luxury cars such as Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Its design changes include:

  • A wider wheelbase and a bulkier front fascia
  • Lined hood and a solid wing face grille upfront
  • Sharper full LED headlights and fog lights
  • Prominent shoulder lines on both sides
  • Bolder 5-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Aggressive rear end with a longer overhang and trunk lip spoiler
  • C-shaped LED tail lamps
  • Redesigned front and rear bumpers
  • Two-toned rearview mirrors
  • Shark fin antenna
  • Dual exhaust pipes

  • 8 speakers with 4 tweeters

What are other comfort features available in Honda’s midsize sedan?

The new Honda Accord boasts a leather-covered shift knob and a steering wheel that provides quick access to several controls. Front passengers (including the driver) can benefit from power adjustable seats.

Active noise cancellation and intelligent dual-zone air conditioning ensure that everyone is comfortable throughout the ride. For added convenience, Honda equipped the car with smart keyless entry, push start system, and power windows on the front.

2019 Honda Accord Specs

The executive sedan will feature a new 1.5-litre engine with Honda’s Earth Dreams technology. It’s the same engine found on Honda Civic RS Turbo which is capable of delivering more power and torque than the engine in the previous model.

Honda also changed the transmission from automatic to Continuous Variable Transmission in the tenth generation Honda Accord. As a result, you get a smoother drive and better fuel efficiency.

2019 Honda Accord Competition

If this were a popularity contest, we’d say that the new Honda Accord has some pretty weak rivals in its segment. It overshadows the Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, and Subaru Legacy. Only the Mazda 6 sedan seems to do well on its own.

Verdict

Honda Accord sees major updates for its tenth generation. Most of these changes are focused on aesthetics and safety, with some slight performance tweaks.

Even though its engine is only a tad bit more powerful, the new CVT transmission improves its fuel efficiency by a mile. Honda has also made the vehicle much safer for everyone with its tough exterior and Honda SENSING integration.

Most buyers will be turned off by the Php 350,000 price hike. However, we think that the 2019 Honda Accord is well-worth the price considering its upmarket redesign and a long list of safety features.
