Honda Accord gets 5-star safety ratings from ASEAN NCAP

MANILA: The 10th generation of Honda Accord just received a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP.

The 2020 Honda Accord is the newest model in the Honda portfolio to receive a 5-star safety rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries ASEAN NCAP, besides nine other Honda vehicles, including the 2012 City and the 2013 and 2019 Civic.

The current generation Accord garnered an overall score of 91.79 out of 100. 49.07 percent for adult occupant protection,23.28 points for child occupant protection, and 19.44 points for safety assist technologies. ASEAN NCAP uses a single rating system that grades vehicle safety via adult occupant protection which comprises 50 percent of overall rating, while child occupant protection and safety assist technologies get 25 percent each of the total score.

The crash tests include offset frontal test, side-impact test, and an evaluation of the vehicle’s safety features including effective braking and avoidance, seatbelt reminders, blind spot technology, and advanced safety assist technology.

The 2020 Honda Accord is equipped with Honda Sensing Suite, the brand’s marketing name for its systems of both active and passive safety and driving-assist features. For the Accord, this includes six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS),

Multi-angle Rearview Camera (MRC), Electric Parking Brake (EPB), forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, keyless entry, and parking sensors, all makes the Honda Accord safer and easier to drive.

The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) aims to elevate vehicle safety standards and raise consumer awareness regarding vehicle safety among countries in the Southeast Asian region.
