2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid features a solar roof

MANILA: Hyundai has unveiled 2020 Sonata Hybrid with extra features that include a more defined spoiler, an updated grille and the most significant, solar roof. The new Sonata not only excels in its interior and exterior design but it also comes equipped with loads of tech, which makes it one the most advanced cars. Just like its updated design, Hyundai has brought up the tech levels in Sonata with Hybrid version.

It comes with a pretty neat charging system, which makes the charging process hassle-free. It is a regular hybrid, so there are no questions of having a plug-in port. However, what it does have is a solar panel on the roof, which spans the complete length of the sedan’s roof. Sonata has the ability to get charged on the go and does not depend on the brakes of the car to juice up the batteries. With the aid of the solar panel, Hyundai claims that it can charge up the cells in just six hours. This feature can help the car to increase the annual distance by 1,300 km. 

Sonata hybrid is a pure electric and has the ability to run on low speeds with sheer electrical power. Moreover, it returns a very remarkable fuel economy and can run up to 20.1 kilometres per litre with a smaller 16 inches alloys. The figure drops to 19.1 kilometres per litre with chunkier 17 inches wheels. Moving to the powertrain, it flaunts a  2.0 L Smartstream engine with continuously variable valve timing.

This engine is capable of putting out 152 PS and is paired with a single electric motor that churns out 38 kW or 52 PS. It comes mated to a six-speed automatic instead of the usual continuously variable transmission. Hyundai has developed the six-speed automatic transmission, especially for Sonata Hybrid.
