2020 Lexus RX gets tech and safety upgrades

MANILA: Lexus hasn’t been too popular for bringing out facelifts too often. In the year 2017, the luxurious arm of Toyota brought out the facelifted NX and now in 2019, the automaker has pulled the wraps off the 2020 RX. However, as soon as you set your eyes on the SUV,

you’d find it hard to notice the differences in terms of the appearance of the RX. This confirms that the differences on the RX are rather subtle on the outside and heavy on tech and safety, just like what we saw with the updated NX.

The updates on the outside come in the form of repositioned headlamps which now sit much lower on the bumper instead of in the side air intakes. A revamped grille and thinner than before headlamps are the other changes at the front. Moving at the rear end, we see slightly updated taillamps. Other than the aforementioned updates, the Lexus RX remains more or less the same.

Hop inside the 2020 Lexus RX and you will start noticing updates on a larger scale. For starters, there is a brand-new eight-inch touchscreen that comes equipped with stuff like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto. Moreover, the unit also comes with Alexa integration. If an eight-inch screen is not sufficient for your needs, you can get your RX with a much bigger 12.3-inch unit.

In terms of powertrain, the 2020 Lexus RX continues to house a 3.5-litre V6 motor that is capable of producing 295 hp of maximum power. The engine comes coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission unit. Then there is the RX 450h hybrid that gets a V6 in conjunction with an electric motor. Both the internal combustion engine and the electric motor makes 308 PS of maximum power together. The power is then sent to the wheel via a CVT unit.

In the bid to improve the ride quality and handling on the RX, Lexus has equipped with SUV with new retuned dampers and shocks, stiffer anti-roll bars, and thick & hollow front and rear stabilizer bars.

There is also an updated Active Variable Suspension that can be found on the F-Sport variants on the SUV. Lexus also updated the safety quotient with the inclusion of Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 which brings along cyclist detection, lane tracing assist, and light pedestrian detection. In case you want a bigger three-row version of the Lexus RX, the new RXL has also got all the updates for the 2020 model.
