30,644 automobiles traded in the Philippines in February 2019
MANILA: Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), and Association of Vehicle Distributors (AVID) have reported that a total of 30,644 trades took place in the month of February 2019. Ms. Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo, the AVID president said,
“We are encouraged by the good sales performance of AVID for the month which signals stronger consumer confidence as well as the preference for top-notch products. While we are still in the early part of the year, we have gotten over the hump and expect a robust recovery for the automotive industry”.
34.7 % of the market share was captured by Passenger Car (PC) with 10,632 units sold. However, with 20,012 trades or shall we say 65.3 % of the market share, the Commercial Vehicles (CV) was seen commanding the Philippine automobile market. In the subsegments of CV, Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) led with an 82.34 % market share as the sales totalled to 16,477.
However, this was good 2 % less than January 2019 when 16,783 units were traded in the same subsegment. Another division that went down was the AUV/MPV segment, witnessing a decline of 7.6 % as only 2,227 units were sold in February, compared to 2,410 units in January.
With 738 units sold, the Light Truck segment grew by 32.6 % in February. In January 2019, only 512 vehicles were sold in the same category. Category 4 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus saw sales of 368 units, which is 11 % more than last month. Category 5 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus, however, declined from 110 sales in January to 89 trades in February. 128 trucks of Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. and JAC Automobile International Philippines Inc. found their owners during the time period.
The following ranking shows the top five automobile brands in the Philippines in February 2019:
- Toyota (including Lexus) – 30.24 % market share (9,267 sales)
- Mitsubishi (including Hino) – 16.29 % market share (5,200 sales)
- Hyundai - 12.12 % market share (3,725 sales)
- Nissan – 11.5 % market share (3,523 sales)
- Honda– 6.91 % market share (2,492 sales)
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation with 33.84 %, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 17.13 %, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 10.87 %, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. with 10.7 %, and Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. with 7.28 % grabbed the top five positions respectively, in descending order.
