5 Audi models win trophies in 2020 Autonis Awards

MANILA: The readers of Auto Motor und Sport, a leading German publication, voted Audi models in five out of 10 categories of the manufacturer-recognized 2020 Autonis Awards.  The annual awards acknowledge the best new design features in the automotive industry.

The Audi models that made it to the winners' circle were the Audi RS6 Avant, A5, Q3 Sportback, A3, and A1 Citycarver. Over 100 new models from different manufacturers were included in the assessment for the awards’ categories, with around 16,000 participants casting votes.

The Audi A1 Citycarver was able to claim victory in the Autonis Small Car category, gaining 33% of the readers' votes.

The model was launched in 2019 and it is defined by an off-road, robust appeal that is not just noticeable through its massive, octagonal single frame, but also through an underbody protection in stainless-steel red color, enhanced ride height, and restyled style sills with contrasting attachments.

Meanwhile, the new Audi A3 premium compact model gained 19.6% of the readers’ votes and won the Compact Car category.

The A3 is said to be the first Audi to have the matrix LED headlights paired with digital daytime running lights, which in turn, provide the car a distinct signature look.

Twenty-four percent of participating readers voted for the Audi Q3 Sportback as the best vehicle in the Compact SUV segment. The  SUV Coupe is marked by low roofline that appears longer compared to the regular Q3. Moreover, the Q3 Sportback is about three centimeters broader and this accounts for its more muscular appearance.

The upgraded Audi A5 secured 36.3% of the readers’ votes in the Mid-size Segment, and this takes into consideration the enhancements that the model has acquired.

Among the updates made on the A5 are the air vents positioned above the grille that resemble the ones seen on the iconic Audi Sport Quattro from 1984 and the broader and flatter single frame grille with honeycomb insert.

For the Full-size Category, the Audi RS 6 Avant gained 22.6% of the readers’ votes to lead the pack. 

Thanks to its RS-specific bumper with oval tailpipes and rear diffuser, flatter single frame grille, and its body that is about 40 millimeters wider due to its flared wheel arches, higher performance  is guaranteed in this model compared to the A6 Avant base variant.

Upon acceptance of the five Autonis trophies, Audi Head of Design March Lichte said, “Each of these models is part of the Audi family, yet each has its own character. At Audi, it is extremely important for us as a premium brand that the design of our models not only appeals to us, but also meets the tastes of our customers.”
