New Audi A8 L: A longer wheelbase and a host of features

MANILA: The new Audi A8 L 3.0 TFSI MHEV has equipment and specifications said to be incomparable with other vehicles in its segment, thanks to a high-performance V6 engine, long wheelbase, predictive active suspension, and an array of advanced features.

The system of the vehicle is completely dynamic, as it depends on electromechanical actuators to carry or push down any of the wheels of the Audi A8 L individually. The goal is to proactively manage ride height in any circumstance.

The 3.0-liter, turbocharged V6 gasoline engine provides 335hp and 500Nm.

The engine is fitted with a mild-hybrid system made up of a belt alternator starter (BAS) and a lithium-ion battery with 10Ah electrical capacity. This enables the vehicle to cruise at speeds between 55kph and 160kph with the engine switched off which, eventually, generates zero emissions for up to 40 seconds.

Once the driver puts his or her foot on the throttle pedal, the BAS helps along a smooth and instantaneous restart.

A new 48V system that works as the main vehicle electrical system provides a high recuperation power of up to 12kW with start-stop operation from 22kph and lessens fuel consumption.

Matched with the new Audi A8 L engine is a quick but gently shifting eight-stage Tiptronic transmission. The Quattro permanent all-wheel drive (AWD) system with a self-locking center differential, along with the 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, are included as standard.

Through the use of a camera situated at the front of the car, the vehicle’s system determines uneven surfaces before these are encountered. 

Predictive active suspension, which is a feature not found in other leading luxury sedans, allows the Audi A8 L to demonstrate the spectacular ride comfort.

The predictive active suspension settings include the Comfort Plus and Dynamic, which regulate the air suspension of the vehicle, as well as the Audi drive select dynamic handling system.

Under the Dynamic setting, the A8 L transforms into a sports car as it turns smoothly when cornering rapidly. When on Comfort Plus, the luxury sedan in on its least jarring setting, with the passengers and driver said to be hardly perceiving that the vehicle is cornering.

The long wheelbase of the Audi A8 L enabled engineers and designers to work on a progressive, roomy interior. Similar to an expansive lounge, one of the features is the rear-seat entertainment system composed of the rear-seat remote and two Audi tablets.

With all these innovations, passengers will be able to enjoy movies on sites such as Netflix, conveniently access other apps, and surf the internet.

Platform connectivity is guaranteed through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Audi cool box situated in the rear seat is a welcome addition to stow and keep beverages chilled.

The MMI touch of the Audi becomes the MMI touch response in the A8 L. At the middle area of the instrument panel of the vehicle is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. A second touchscreen display can also be seen on the console of the center tunnel, and this enables access to convenience and climate control features. It also includes access to the capability to input texts through handwriting recognition.

Moreover, MMI Navigation Plus is regarded is a media center that produces graphics in full high-definition (HD) resolution for the Audi virtual cockpit.

Other luxury features of the Audi A8 L include the Bang & Olufsen audio system, multi-function massage in all seats, an air quality package comprising of a perfume and air ionizer, panoramic sunroof, and the 360-degree 3D-view camera.
