5 things to know about Audi’s ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ slogan

MANILA: Audi celebrated its 50^th anniversary since it first verbalized its corporate philosophy through the “Vorsprung durch Technik” slogan, which means “progress through technology.” To celebrate this milestone, Audi AG Board Member for Technical Development Oliver Hoffman enumerated five things that every Audi fan should know about Vorsprung durch Technik.

Audi 80 instilled Vorsprung durch Technik

The first model to capture the Vorsprung durch Technik slogan is the Audi 80 that came with an innovative engine which is still presently used. The Audi 80 also featured lightweight technology just like the current Audi models. When Audi dominated rally racing in the early 1980s with the Quattro, the Vorsprung durch Technik slogan was already a decade old.

Quattro-powered motorsports boosted Vorsprung

The all-wheel drive quattro technology helped improve Vorsprung by transferring the knowledge earned from motor racing to series production cars. Audi’s participation in motorsports events served as a kind of test lab under extreme conditions, from where it drew new ideas and components.
