Toyota Motor with Woven by Toyota unveils AI lineup underpinning Woven City

MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation, together with its software arm, Woven by Toyota Incorporated, has unveiled an array of artificial intelligence technologies at its Woven City facility in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. 

As the manufacturer disclosed, the aforementioned are mostly large-scale AI models that can handle tasks ranging from mobility technology development and wide-ranging data-gathering operations to human behavioral studies and autonomous driving support.

The largest of these is the Woven City AI Vision Engine, which is said to serve as the brain of the 70-hectare facility. Toyota claims that this AI model can “understand and respond to real-world conditions in real time,” gather data from camera feeds and from Woven City’s active mobility systems. 

More importantly, the Woven City AI Vision Engine can identify potential risks and dangers within its area of responsibility. These can then be enacted upon to produce the appropriate safety measures.

Apart from the Woven City AI Vision Engine, there’s also the Woven City Integrated ANZEN System. This underpins the city-wide AI model to interpret human behavior, specifically driver patterns, and act accordingly to smooth out traffic movement in order to improve safety and flow. 

The aforementioned works by coordinating with two other AI-driven components: the Woven City Behavior AI and the Woven City Drive Sync Assist.

Additionally, Woven by Toyota also showcased the Woven City Infra Hub and the Woven City Data Fabric.

Woven City Infra Hub is responsible for integrating all the data gathered throughout Woven City. Woven City Data Fabric, on the other hand, handles data management and utilization while strictly adhering to prevailing data privacy policies. 

Notably, the Woven City AI Vision Engine and the Integrated ANZEN System are predicted to drive Toyota’s “kakezan.”

The term kakezan refers to “multiplication,” a principle followed and adhered to by Woven by Toyota Incorporated that brings together all of the car manufacturer’s strengths. The aforementioned includes Toyota’s expertise in mass production, Woven by Toyota Incorporated’s software expertise, as well as a wide range of capabilities from the Japanese marque’s partners. 

For now, Toyota Motor Corporation has yet to disclose an actual product that will come out with the help of these newly deployed AI models. 

New inventors and partners brought in to work with Woven City, however, have several exciting projects in the pipeline, which include an electric-powered vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle, AI-enabled robots, and smart residential areas, among others.
