Aston Martin launches DBX GT

MANILA: Aston Martin has expanded the DBX lineup of variants with the all-new GT trim. The aforementioned is a more luxurious and refined take on the high-performance sport utility vehicle (SUV), which contrasts with the performance-focused DBX S and 707 trims. 

Where the Aston Martin DBX S offers uncompromised performance, the all-new GT finds a “harmony” between driving thrills and “enhanced daily driveability.” 

“DBX GT is aimed at customers who prefer assured elegance over sporting aggression and demand a higher degree of luxury,” Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hallmark said. 

“By refining the visual drama and elevating the interior with new elements of craftsmanship, the DBX GT delivers a true ultra-luxury experience; one which comes with no sacrifice in performance,” Hallmark added.

Vehicle Specifications

Under the hood of the all-new Aston Martin DBX GT is the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 found on the DBX S. This is paired with a nine-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. 

Similar to its burlier sibling, the DBX GT can still produce up to 717 horsepower and 900 Newton-meters of torque. It also has the same zero-to-100 kilometers per hour time of 3.1 seconds. 

Likewise carried over were the same carbon-ceramic front and rear brake systems and a fast steering ratio that provides a turning circle of 12 meters. 

On the one hand, the newer trim was given an array of suspension tweaks that are markedly different to the DBX S. It has a unique damper valve system for better ride quality over poor roads and an alternate spring rate that adjusts its stiffness depending on the selected drive mode. 

Likewise unique to the DBX GT is a dedicated exhaust tune achieved through double mixing of the gas flow in the vehicle’s rear muffler. This is touted to produce a richer, cleaner tone but is otherwise deactivated when the vehicle is in Sport and Sport+ drive modes. 

Key to the DBX GT are opulent changes made to its interior. To be exact, it boasts what Aston Martin has described as "heightened levels of craftsmanship and comfort." These are achieved through additional details such as the following: 

• Anodized metal drive mode rotary controller
• Semi-aniline leather upholstery
• Deep pile floor mats
• Additional sound deadening
• Acoustic laminated rear side glass 

The more refined nature of the Aston Martin DBX GT extends to its exterior, which features a new double-vaned grille, a two-piece metal side strake, and an alternate set of front/rear bumpers. Completing the vehicle's appearance is a set of 22-inch forged wheels finished in Satin Titanium. 

As Aston Martin disclosed, the global rollout of the DBX GT will begin sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. In short, it will happen soon. Regardless, the brand’s local arm has yet to say whether the GT will be launched locally. Do remember, however, that the 707 variant of the DBX is sold locally, so seeing the GT here in the Philippine market is not too much of a stretch.
