Bentley ups ante in sustainability with rainwater harvesting system

MANILA: As part of the water usage sustainability program of Bentley Motors, the British auto brand installed an advanced rainwater harvesting system in its manufacturing plant and headquarters in Crewe, England.

The installation is in line with the World Environment Day today, June 5. This aims to promote the global movement for environmental protection, and economic and social awareness.

Since the ultimate goal of Bentley Motors is to be the most sustainable luxury car producer in the world, its 20-year focus on water utilization has helped minimize the amount of water used by 89% for every vehicle.  

The rainwater harvesting system consists of one water capture tank in the Crewe facility, and features two integrated pumps and filters which deliver pressurized and direct water supply to appliances.

With a total capacity of 20,000 liters, the new system is anticipated to generate an average of over 1,800 liters of water daily, contingent upon weather predictions.

In the Philippines, rainwater harvesting has numerous advantages. One of these is that sustainable water management approaches can be implemented on various levels. Rainwater harvesting systems in the country enable one to save at least 40% to 50% on water bills since water needed for cleaning the car, for instance, can be drawn from a reserve tank. From simple rain barrels to an extensive rainwater harvesting system similar to Bentley's may also be employed for irrigation systems in farms, car washing, or household purposes.

Through the rainwater harvesting system of Bentley, the auto brand assists in the reduction of demands of businesses on the main water supply in an environment-friendly approach. Bentley Motors is also dedicated towards the production and development of luxury cars, while making efforts to minimize its environmental impact.
