Zigwheels PH most viewed for 2025: Toyota Fortuner

While the Toyota Fortuner has not seen a major update since October 2020, it still managed to count as one of the most-viewed vehicles on Zigwheels Philippines for 2025. 

Sure, many Filipinos love the Toyota-made sport utility vehicle (SUV) for its seven-seater capacity, but what other reasons could be behind its stardom? Let’s find out here. 

Why we think it’s popular

As of 2025, the Toyota Fortuner, particularly the top-spec GR-S variant, is still one of the peppiest turbodiesel SUV models in the local market. Specifically, its 2.8-liter inline-four turbocharged engine can dish out 220 horsepower (hp) and 550 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

The few turbodiesel SUVs that are more powerful than the Toyota Fortuner GR-S are the Land Rover Defender 110 D250 versions and the BMW X5 xDrive30d M Sport, which could make up to 246 hp and 282 hp, respectively. Do note, however, that the aforementioned is a luxury model with a much higher price than the Toyota nameplate. 

Additionally, the Toyota Fortuner is wanted by car buyers for its robust ladder-frame chassis. Many of its rivals also have this characteristic, but the one it uses is the Toyota Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform. 

The said platform has already proven itself throughout the years on vehicles such as the Hilux, Innova, and more recently, the Tamaraw. On higher-spec trims of the Fortuner, the said chassis is paired with a 4x4 drivetrain and an automatic disconnecting differential lock - making for a highly capable off-roader that doesn’t compromise on comfort. 

Dealing with traffic is also easy thanks to its six-speed automatic. Otherwise, those wanting to row through gears can also turn towards the Toyota Fortuner G 4x2, which is available with a six-speed manual gearbox. 

Additionally, the GR-S trim has extra bits that many enthusiasts might want. Sure, it is still a big, burly SUV, but its GR-S-spec brake calipers and monotube shock absorbers can at least offset its heavy-set nature to a certain degree. 

Speaking of which, the Toyota Fortuner GR-S also has a lot of sporty exterior details that many will appreciate. It has a set of GR Design 18-inch alloy wheels, black-colored exterior parts, and GR-specific touches on its instrument panel and center cluster (red stitching with matte carbon trims).

Toyota Fortuner: other specifications

Other noteworthy exterior equipment of the Toyota Fortuner includes LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, LED front fog lamps, LED rear combination lamps, power-fold/adjust side mirrors, and roof rails. The model also has mudguards, as well as welcome lamps mounted on its side mirrors. 

Size-wise, the model is 4,795 millimeters (mm) long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,835 mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,745 mm and a ground clearance of 193 mm.

Overall, the Toyota Fortuner ticks a lot of boxes for people looking for a family-friendly SUV that’s also fun to drive. The GR-S in particular holds a lot of promise if you want something peppy, while the other trims get a decent mix of safety and creature comforts.
