Zigwheels PH most viewed for 2025: Toyota Innova

Even after years of not seeing an update, the Toyota Innova has counted as one of the most viewed vehicles on Zigwheels Philippines in 2025. 

The immediate reason why this is the case is the model’s seven-seater capacity - a must-have for family-oriented Filipinos. It does, however, have some characteristics that make it stand out among other multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) in the market right now. So what are these, and why do we think it's popular? Why we think it’s popular

The Toyota Innova is unique in the Philippine MPV segment, as it is one of the few remaining models that ride on a ladder-frame chassis and are propelled by a turbodiesel engine. The fact that it has an oil burner nets it some additional points from local buyers - because as we all know, many Pinoys still maintain a love affair with diesels. 

Moreover, the ladder-frame chassis of the Innova isn’t just a one-off built for it specifically. Instead, it is the Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) Platform, which the brand has continuously developed since its initial introduction in 2004. 

Over the years, the IMV Platform has already proven its robustness on vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner and Hilux. And more recently, it is now in use on the Tamaraw light commercial vehicle. 

With all that said, the Innova is touted to be as durable as its IMV Platform compatriots. No, it isn’t capable of off-roading, but it has the necessary grit to deal with poorly maintained roads, which are all too common in our country.

Toyota Innova: other specifications

As mentioned above, the Toyota Innova uses a turbodiesel engine, specifically a 2.8-liter inline-four mill that’s capable of producing up to 171 horsepower (hp) and 360 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque for the six-speed automatic trims, and 167 hp and 360 Nm of torque for the five-speed manual versions. Power is sent to its rear wheels. 

On the outside, the higher-end variants of the Toyota-made MPV comes with LED lighting fixtures, power-folding/adjust side mirrors, and a set of 17-inch alloy wheels. 

Inside the model is a three-row seating configuration equipped with fabric upholstery and an automatic climate control system with rear vents. 

Other noteworthy creature comforts and driving amenities found inside the Toyota Innova include, but are not limited to, the following:

• 4.2-inch multi-information display
• Leather steering wheel
• Six-piece speaker set

For on-board entertainment and navigation, the Toyota Innova depends on a seven-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

Safety-wise, the Toyota Innova has dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain shield airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, anti-lock braking, stability control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX, the Toyota Vehicle Security System, a reverse camera, and rear parking sensors.

With its ladder-frame chassis and its peppy turbodiesel mill, combined with a seven-seater interior layout, the Toyota Innova remains a popular choice among car buyers who want a torquey and robust family-friendly ride.
