BYD Cars PH to launch Seal?

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines will be launching a new model soon, and it could be the Seal electric vehicle (EV). 

Such a speculation came after BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Anthony Palanca said that the company will launch a new model at the 2024 Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit. 

“We are going to be launching a performance vehicle under the Ocean series - a dual motor model, and it’s going to be at the EV summit on October 24 to 26,” Palanca shared.  

“It has dual motors, and it makes 510 horsepower and 700 Newton-meters (of torque) if I’m not mistaken,” Palanca added.  

When asked about the body style of the upcoming model, Palanca indicated that it is going to be a five-seater. 

To note, the BYD Seal was one of the vehicles Zigwheels Philippines was able to test drive in 2023 at Zhuhai, China. 

While waiting for the company’s official announcement, here are the global specifications of the assumed arriving model.

The nameplate’s dual-motor version is called the Excellence AWD. Per its name, it uses an all-wheel-drive system, and its front and rear motor setup can generate up to 522 horsepower and 670 Newton-meters of torque. 

Per the Chinese marque’s global website, the sedan model can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.8 seconds. It likewise boasts an electric cruising range of 520 kilometers, according to the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure. 

Providing power to the EV unit's motors is an 82.5-kilowatt-hour version of the brand's Blade battery. It likewise boasts regenerative braking, vehicle-to-load capabilities, and a direct current charging rate of zero to 100 percent in 37 minutes. 

Other notable features of the global version of the BYD Seal include a sizable panoramic sunroof,  a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist systems, integrated sports seats, and a 15.6-inch rotatable infotainment display, among others.

For folks looking forward to what BYD Cars Philippines’ is launching at PEVS, note that the event will be held at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City. It is going to be a three-day event from October 24-26, 2024, and besides BYD, it will see the attendance of VinFast, Nissan, Hyundai, and numerous other car brands.
