CIC-MPTC eyes completion of Cavite-C5 Link new segments by Q2 2022

MANILA:  At the start of 2021, the Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC), a division of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), heightened its efforts to construct the new segments of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) C-5 Link Expressway.

Part of the current initiative includes mobilization projects and foundational activities at Segment 3A-2 at (MIAA area). Ground improvements were also made for Segment 2 at Sucat Interchange and at R-1 (Cavitex) Expressway.

CIC targets the completion of Segment 2 and Segment 3A-2 of C-5 Link Expressway in the second quarter of 2022.

CIC President and General Manager Roberto V. Bontia said, “We are doubling our efforts on the construction of Segment 2 and Segment 3A-2 this beginning of 2021. With the challenges brought about by the pandemic, we will ensure to stick to the timeline as close as we can and be able to open the new segments in Cavitex C5 Link next year."

The construction operations involve an average of 200 laborers working on a 24/7 basis. CIC guarantees the safety of workers against COVID-19 through strict observation and compliance with the health guidelines that the national government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have set.

The C5 Link Expressway is composed of Segments 2 and 3. Segment 2 is a 1.9-kilometer, 2x3 lane expressway from Cavitex (R1) Expressway to a proposed intersection at Sucat Segment 3A-2.

On the other hand, a subsection of Segment 3 comprises a 1.6-kilometer, 2x3 lane expressway from Merville to RSG (Airport View) Subdivision in Parañaque.

Once completed, the P15-B project is aimed at serving 50,000 vehicles and lessening travel time from Cavite Province, Las Piñas City, and Parañaque City to Taguig and Makati from one hour to around ten minutes. The initiative is also projected to play a big role in economic development.

Furthermore, CIC is slated to hold a heavy maintenance activity in Cavite. The mobilization will begin on February 27, 2021 and the expected duration is 60 days.

The initiative targets the maintenance of the performance standards of the expressway, which entail improvement of the drive experience of motorists as well as the quality of the carriageway.

Bontia added, “There will definitely be an effect on the passage of our motorists in the construction areas, that is why we have laid out a comprehensive traffic management plan supporting all these works to ease their passage and additional on-ground support and more than ample signages will also be positioned to ensure safety and smooth flow of vehicles. We are working together with our JV partner the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) and the PEATC on the implementation of the traffic management activities at Cavitex R1 segment.”

Apart from the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), Cavitex-C5 Link Expressway, and the Cavitex, the MPTC tollways cover the concessions for the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the NLEX Connector Road, and the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).
