DOTr says Metro Manila Subway construction to create 18K jobs

MANILA: According to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is anticipated to provide thousands of employment during construction and enhance economic activity in the surrounding communities once completed.

At the MMSP's Contract Package 104 (CP104) groundbreaking in Pasig City, Bautista declared that the project is the nation's "crown jewel" and that it will be finished "at full speed."

According to Bautista, more than 18,000 employment will be generated by construction. When finished, he claimed, the MMSP will offer the general public a "comfortable, convenient, safe, and affordable” transportation choice.

One of seven civil work contracts for the project from the MMSP, CP104 addresses the building of the 3.397-kilometer-long Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard stations and tunnels.

The contract price is P20.4 billion in total, including VAT.

Once finished, the MMSP will span eight localities from Valenzuela City to the FTI-Bicutan in Paraňaque City with a line to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City. It will be 33 kilometers long and have 17 stations.

The MMSP, which will be the nation's first underground mass transportation system and is being funded by the Japanese government, will have a daily passenger capacity of 519,000 and intends to reduce the current travel time between Quezon City and NAIA from 70 minutes to 35 minutes.

Prior to that, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. presided over the MMSP's CP104's groundbreaking and emphasized its potential to boost economic activity in important project-affected areas and present chances for enterprises.
