Geely introduces Yinhe M9 to headline new “Five by Five” strategy

MANILA: Geely has unveiled the all-new Yinhe (Galaxy) M9 - a tech-heavy flagship sport utility vehicle that headlines the company’s transformative “Five by Five” strategy.

The Geely Five by Five strategy is spearheaded by the Yinhe M9 - an electrified six-seater nameplate classed by the Chinese brand as a sport utility vehicle. 

Under the hood of the new model is a 2.0-liter EM-P Super Hybrid system, which is touted to achieve a fuel efficiency of 21 kilometers per liter, while boasting an acceleration rate of zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.5 seconds. 

Additionally, the model leverages AI for its smart cockpit, advanced driver-assist systems, and its G-Pilot H5 Intelligent Driving Assistance System. Altogether, the intertwined system is what Geely has described as its new “AI Digital Chassis.” 

Notably, the Geely AI Digital Chassis was first showcased on the Geely Galaxy Starship concept car, which was presented at Auto China 2024. 

The exterior of the Yinhe M9, meanwhile, features sleek lines combined with a minute amount of sharp details. The result is what Geely describes as a blend of Eastern sensibilities and international aesthetics. 

No further specifications were provided for the all-new Yinhe M9, nor did the brand say when and where it will start selling the vehicle. Regardless, it is the Five by Five strategy’s flag-waver, which is seen to set a “new standard for intelligent, sustainable mobility.” 

Interestingly, the upcoming Geely EX5 also belongs to the Galaxy product line. The said model has already gained a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program, and it will have a starting price of P1.79 million for the local market.

As the company shared, the new Five by Five strategy will demonstrate its “commitment to cutting-edge technology and global market leadership.” 

“With nearly 30 years of accumulated expertise and experience in car manufacturing, Geely has established a global strategic system comprising five design centers, five research and development centers, five testing clusters, five powertrain pathways, and five AI (artificial intelligence) ecosystems - forming full-spectrum systematic capabilities,” Chief Executive Officer of Geely Auto Group Jerry Gan said. 

“This global footprint will help lead the global automotive industry in high-quality, sustainable development in electrification, low-carbon practices, and intelligence, while delivering a better life to global users,” Gan added. 

To further elaborate, the company will leverage its five research and development facilities in Huangzhou, Ningbo, Gothenburg, Coventry, and Frankfurt. The aforementioned are seen to drive innovation. 

The aforementioned will be supported by five testing clusters located in 16 different bases, including the newly established Geely Europe Testing Base in Frankfurt, Germany. 

All the while, Geely will pull no stops in exploring further development in various powertrain types and powertrain technologies in order to meet the “diversified needs of global users and markets. The aforementioned includes five main pillars, which are: 

• Gasoline
• Pure electric
• Hybrid
• Battery swapping technology
• Methanol fuel cell powertrains
