GWM Tank 500 HEV breaks cover at Malaysia Auto Show 2025

MANILA: Great Wall Motor (GWM) has launched the Tank 500 hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) at the ongoing Malaysia Auto Show 2025. 

The said model is the bigger brother of the GWM Tank 300, which is the Chinese carmaker’s entry into the Philippine sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment. 

Here are some of the notable features of the GWM Tank 500. 

Exterior 

The GWM Tank 500 boasts a commanding road presence thanks to its size, and the following features add to the said appeal. These include the below appointments: 

• LED headlights 
• Large front grille 
• Plenty of chrome trims 
• Chunky roof rails 
• Large running boards 
• Panoramic sunroof 
• Power tailgate 
• 20-inch alloy wheels 

Interior 

The cabin of the GWM Tank 500 offers a wealth of upmarket trims and up-to-date technological amenities. We have listed the said features below:

Powering the GWM Tank 500 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. It uses a nine-speed hydraulic automatic transmission with a four-wheel drive system.

Will it arrive in PH? 

GWM Philippines has not made any announcements about whether or not the Tank 500 will be brought to local shores. 

However, the local wing of the Chinese car brand is currently poised to roll out an upmarket-looking mid-size SUV in the form of the Haval H9. 

For those wondering how it sizes up, here are some of its features: 

• 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine 
• Nine-speed automatic transmission 
• Intelligent torque-on-demand four-wheel drive system 
• Mechanical locking differentials 
• 99-percent high-strength steel frame 
• Spacious seating for seven 

“The Haval H9 represents the next chapter in GWM’s evolution in the Philippine market,” GWM Philippines Brand Head and Marketing Director Dax Avenido said in a previous press release. 

“This SUV brings together intelligent technology, off-road heritage, and refined comfort — making it the perfect companion for both adventure-seekers and modern families,” he added. 

The GWM Haval H9 will be officially launched in the country later this year.
