Honda bags Red Dot: Best of the Best 2024 honors with Cybertruck-like sedan

MANILA: Honda has won the Red Dot: Best of the Best 2024 Award through its newest concept car, which looks like a sedan version of the Tesla Cybertruck, at least when viewed from the side.

The Honda 0 Series Saloon is said to represent a major transformation for the Japanese car brand under its redefined Global Brand Slogan, The Power of Dreams, as well as its approach to electrification.

It made its debut in the United States earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024.

“The Saloon is positioned as the flagship concept model among Honda 0 Series models, embodying a new approach to Honda EV (electric vehicle) development — Thin, Light, and Wise — that Honda is pursuing to create new value for EVs,” the company wrote in a press release.

Noticeable is the Honda 0 Series Saloon’s one-motion form: a styling characterized by a line rising smoothly from the front to the rear. Combined with its low and wide design, the car’s exterior features help convey “suppleness and dynamism.”

Striking also are its upright window glasses that create an expansive side panel. Its overall shape narrows toward the side sills to accentuate the tires.

Inside, the Honda 0 Series Saloon features a simple and intuitive human-machine interface that provides a sophisticated and seamless user interface.

The occupants sit low to the ground, typical of Honda cars. Giving the car a low height — Honda noted — sets the Saloon apart from other vehicles at first glance, realizing not only a seductive design, but providing an interior space that is more spacious than what people can imagine from the exterior appearance.

“We are pleased to be awarded the world-renowned Red Dot Award in the Design Concept competition, in addition to the awards we received in the Product Design competition, announced in April. We designed the Saloon, named the ‘Best of the Best,’ as a model that represents the major transformation of Honda, with the theme of achieving a ‘resonance with the environment, society, and customers’ and with an original design that differentiates the Saloon from other models from the first glance. We believe these awards are the result of receiving a high evaluation both for the design and the new value Honda offers. Honda will continue to create and offer mobility products that bring surprise and excitement to people's daily lives,” said Honda Research and Development Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director Toshinobu Minami.
