Honda reveals the off-road centric SUV, 2019 Passport
MANILA: Honda teased the 2019 Passport last week. The manufacturer has now unveiled the vehicle officially. The all-new Passport fills the gap between the small Honda CR-V and big Pilot.
The name ‘Passport’ is not entirely new as the automaker has previously used the name for the Isuzu Rodeo’s badge-engineered version. It was present from the 90s to the early 2000s.
The brand-new Honda Passport is based on the Global Truck Platform. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 245/50R all-weather tires. The front grill, as well as the bumper, get a matte-black paint job. The headlights come with the black finish, and exterior trim pieces are painted in glossy black color. Also, the chrome exhaust finishers and floating C-pillar are on offer.
Inside, the soft-touch materials and the piano black trim make the Passport classy. The SUV is equipped with leather-wrapped seats and steering wheel. A full-color 7-inch digital instrument panel and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system are also present. The infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and features a six-speaker audio system.
The brand new Passport derives its power from a 3.5-litre V6 engine. The engine is capable of churning out a maximum 283 PS of power along with a peak torque of 355 Nm. A nine-speed automatic gearbox handles the transmission duties, and the power is sent to all of the wheels via the i-VTM4 AWD system, which is optional.
The engine is also assisted by the manufacturer’s ITM (Intelligent Traction Management), which is supported by the front wheel as well as all-wheel-drive models. The AWD model of the brand new Passport comes with four different settings - sand, normal, mud, and snow. However, the front wheel drive model gets two setting modes - snow and normal.
