Hyundai Soon to Bring Toyota Hilux Rival

MANILA: Hyundai Australia has confirmed that the manufacturer is working to come up with a competent pickup to rival the segment leader, Toyota Hilux. The pickup from Hyundai will be able to see the light of the day somewhere between 2020. Though the manufacturer has not confirmed the configuration but, different pickup markets had asked Hyundai to develop a proper Hilux rival.

According to reports, it is expected that Hyundai is working on a Tucson-based unibody pickup inspired by Santa Cruz concept which was revealed in 2015. The particular pickup will be primarily aimed at the North American market. So, it indicates that the automaker might come up with two pickups - the Santa Cruz to cater to modern new niche and a more traditional one-tonner to serve the international needs. But, nothing official is declared yet.

With Hyundai also coming in the pickup segment, the particular turf will be more crowded in the coming years. Renault is already set to make its market share with Alaskan and even the German automaker, Mercedes has placed its bet through X-Class. In addition, Peugeot is also working to lock horns against Toyota Hilux. Let’s see what we will see in the pickup segment in the coming years.
