Japan launches website for tourists who want to get behind the wheel
MANILA: Ever wanted to drive in Japan but don’t know if your documents are valid, or if you need to fulfill other requirements?
Well, wonder no more as the Japanese Automobile Federation (JAF) launched a website early February that details who, what, and how to drive in Japan for tourists, and even residents. There’s even a guide on proper driving etiquette and a primer on the country’s various traffic rules and regulations.
Answer all the queries in your head after a few clicks right from the welcome page of the website. There you can find out if your Philippine-issued driver’s license is valid, for how long it is valid or if you need an International Driving Permit (IDP), what it is, and where to get it.
Another selection lists down the various road signs you should be aware of, the kinds of traffic lights, how to merge, and even insurance information.
There’s also a what-to-do in the event of a breakdown or an emergency with the proper numbers to call.
If you don’t have an itinerary yet when you get there, the website lists down popular destinations to visit, not just in Tokyo, but all over Japan.
Lastly, and not surprisingly, the Japanese really cover it all as the website even provides information for people who are bringing their vehicles to Japan.
So, in case you have a trip to Japan coming up that involves some driving, do yourself a favor and check out https://english.jaf.or.jp/.
You’re welcome!
