Joining the Race is the Lotus 3-Eleven
MANILA: The British auto brand, Lotus Cars which is famous for its esprit and ardor in making the sports cars has chosen this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil its track-ready sports car, the 3-Eleven which is no exception in exhibiting aggressiveness. From February 2016, the track focused Lotus will be manufactured and the brand will roll only 311 cars. It will be offered in two models; Road and Race and is expected to make its way by April 2016.
"We always say that to make a sports car better, you make it faster and lighter. The new Lotus 3-Eleven carries that philosophy to a new level, and is perfectly in keeping with our brand values. It condenses our engineering know-how into one, hard-core package, and is so focused that it won’t suit everyone. This is a perfect demonstration of the faster and lighter concept, something which will be crucial to all Lotus cars in the future.” said Jean-Marc Gales, Chief Executive Officer for Group Lotus.
Following the same philosophy, the 3- Eleven is made of light composite materials like carbon fiber which significantly contributes in making it 40 % lighter. Adding to its weight reduction is its optional tonneau cover in place of wind shield. It has clamshell hood and large air intakes to keep the car cool when it goes ferocious on the race tracks. A rollcage is mounted behind the occupants, and at the back there is added downforce with the inclusion of a rear wing and diffusers.
The 3-Eleven interiors are typical of a sports car where there is no radio or carpet but what is fitted subtly is the tachometer, light controls, start button, speedometer, steering wheel, and sports seats with four-pointed harnesses. The Race models come with fire extinguisher, battery kill switch, FIA approved driver's race seat and six-point harness.
Lotus says that this car is their fastest car to date. Giving it the speed of storm is its 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine that throws out 450 PS of power. With weight as 900 kg, it is claimed that it can mark 100 km/h in 3 seconds and can reach 300 km/h maximum. The other standard features include traction control system, limited slip differential system, and 6-speed manual transmission with smooth gear transitions. What is different in the Race model is its 6-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters.
With such dynamic display in terms of performance and looks it can be said that every road will welcome this RACE and races are incomplete without ROADS.
