Kia expands NEV line with EV5 introduction

MANILA: To bolster its presence in key global markets, Kia expanded its electrified roster with the introduction of the EV5.

The production model’s specifications was officially revealed some two years after its concept design was announced.

In a statement, Kia Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Ho Sung Song said that the aforementioned model is expected to appeal to a broad range of potential needs, with a particular focus on the diverse lifestyles of millennial customers.

“The EV5 delivers the comfort of a ‘home away from home’ combined with advanced connectivity and a dynamic driving experience, offering young families an ideal solution tailored to their lifestyles. By expanding the EV customer base in this way, the model will play a key role in accelerating the shift toward electrified mobility,” he said.

Powering the vehicle is an electric motor that can deliver 215 horsepower. This lets the vehicle accelerate 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 8.4 seconds and offer a towing capacity of 1,200 kilograms.

The said mill is mated to an 81.4-kilowatt-hour energy bank that gives the vehicle a range of up to 530 kilometers.

Its range of technologies include:

• Regenerative braking
• Kia’s advanced heat pump system
• Fast-charging capability (10–80 percent in just 30 minutes)

Featuring the “Opposites United design philosophy, the Kia EV5 sports a boxy silhouette, squared fenders, a strong shoulder line and sculpted wheel arches to match the following portions:

• Wide nose
• Beefy bonnet
• Three-dimensional “Star Map” daytime running lights
• Digital tiger face
• Rugged bumpers
• Broad skid plate
• Diagonal lower intake
• A rearward-shifted D-pillar
• 18 and 19-inch wheels
• Wide tailgate

Inside, the Kia EV5 is engineered with roomy cabin, with a host of creature comforts such as:

• Three-zone climate control system with an odor-reducing after-blow function
• Wide center console with a sliding tray
• Flat-folding second-row seats
• Panoramic Wide Display (made up of two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment screen, and a five-inch climate control portion)
• Head-up display
• Kia Sound 2.0 (Bold Motion Symphony)

In addition, the Kia EV5 has a “Pet Mode,” which ensures that the cabin has a comfortable, pet friendly environment.

Among its advanced driver assistive features are the Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2.0) and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2.0). Complementing this is the new i-Pedal 3.0 system, which allows drivers to adjust the level of regenerative braking.

Kia mentioned that the EV5’s global rollout will commence within the second half of the year, beginning in its home country and Europe — with sales in Canada to follow come early 2026.
