LTO hails Lacanilao as new chief

MANILA: In case you missed it, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao has been appointed as the new The Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief.

The newly-appointed chief — who was the Philippine Special Envoy for Transnational Crime — succeeded Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, who has been appointed as the new Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chair.

After taking his oath of office at the Department of Transportation (which was officiated by Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez), Lacanilao conducted a meeting with the division chiefs of the LTO Central Office alongside Executive Director Atty. Greg Pua Jr. to discuss the seven key programs that will serve as the priority framework to improve operations and promote greater transparency and efficiency within the agency.

The aforementioned programs revolved on:

• Strict implementation of a “Zero Corruption” and “Non-Appearance” Policy
• Upholding the principle “Totoong Serbisyo, Wag Negosyo”
• Eliminating unnecessary processes that cause delays
• Removing unwarranted expenses to reduce the financial burden on citizens
• Fully digitalizing LTO systems and integrating them with other agencies
• “Walang Areglo” – strict enforcement of non-settlement policy
• Mainstreaming road safety measures across all relevant sectors

Further, Lacanilao also urged all division heads to collaborate in implementing regulations and ensuring integrity and professionalism in their duties.
