LTO starts issuance of 10-year license to drivers without violations today
MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced the effectivity of Republic Act (RA) 10930, which extends the validity of a driver's license to 10 years.
Starting today (October 28), drivers who will renew their licenses at the LTO's Central Office-Licensing in and the Quezon City Licensing Center (QCLC) can avail of the 10-year valid licenses (provided they meet preconditions). Both offices are located in East Avenue, QC.
On November 3, other LTO offices in Metro Manila are set to implement the same validity extension.
Under RA 10930, drivers who have zero traffic violation on file are entitled for the extended validity. Otherwise, drivers with a violation record will only get the standard five-year validity, the LTO said.
Meanwhile, all motorists who will renew their license are now required to complete and pass LTO's Comprehensive Driver's Education (CDE), which then grants the drivers a CDE certificate.
Motorists will undergo the CDE course either online or at CDE seminars in LTO centers. Only those with the certificate can have their license renewed.
The agency said that CDE materials can be obtained through the LTO website, LTO portal, LTO offices, and LTO-accredited driving schools. Users have to register at the LTO portal's Land Transport Management System (LTMS) to get the CDE.
The CDE is free when taken through centers and the LTMS portal.
LTO said that it will announce when the 10-year license will be available outside Metro Manila.
