LTO to probe fatal road rage incident in Tondo

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will conduct an investigation on the fatal road accident that happened in Tondo, Manila on Thursday.

Delivery van driver Benjamin Endrina Bagtas was crushed to death when he was allegedly pinned between his van and a trailer truck driven by Marlon Valdez Ilas.

Based on the police report, this was a result of a road rage incident as both vehicles were cutting each other's way along the southbound of Mel Lopez Boulevard.

Bagtas got off the delivery van but Ilas steered the trailer truck towards his direction and continued driving, causing Bagtas to be pinned against the two vehicles and dragged on the road.

The victim was declared dead in the hospital, while the suspect was arrested and is now under police custody.

According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, he directed LTO National Capital Region Director Roque Verzosa III to issue the show cause order to the registered owner of the trailer truck.

"Paulit-ulit po nating sinasabi na walang mabuting idinudulot ang init ng ulo sa daan. Lagi po nating iisipin na tayo ang talo kapag hinayaan nating manaig ang init ng ating ulo (We keep saying that road rage does no good. Let us always keep in mind that we are the ones who will lose when we let our temper prevail)," Mendoza stated.
