“We started from 25th place, which isn’t ideal. But the Nürburgring 24 Hours isn’t always about the starting position. Thanks to Maro’s strong stints, we were able to work our way forward. As soon as I got into the car, it started to rain. The decisive downpour in the race – and we made a perfect tire decision,” Schiller was quoted as saying.

Prior to them crossing the checkered flag, Formula One superstar Max Verstappen— alongside formidable teammates Lucas Auer, Dani Juncadella, and Jules Gounon—nearly took the championship, but a driveshaft failure led their maiden season to a screeching halt some three and half hours before the end of the race.
The two Mercedes-AMG cars had a good head start early Saturday evening—occasionally getting in each other's way. There was even a point in the endurance race that Verstappen and Engel made contact with each other.

“The retirement of our sister car took the fight for the win out of the question,” he added.
Meanwhile, the two remaining spots at the podium were taken by Abt Lamborghini #84 (driven by Luca Engstler, Mirko Bortolotti, and Patric Niederhauser) which started from pole position and Walkenhorst Aston Martin #34 (driven by Christian Krognes, Mattia Drudi, Nicki Thiim, and Felipe Fernandez Laser). Their wins also served as their firsts at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Per organizers, the around 352,000 spectators followed the race over the course of four days.
