Mercedes-Benz PH set to launch G-Class EV, 2 more PHEV models in 2025
Brand is keen on expanding NEV lineup further

MANILA: Mercedes-Benz Philippines, under the management of Inchcape Philippines, will be launching the all-electric version of the G-Class (G580) along with two other plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) this year.

The global version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class G580 EV can produce up to 579 horsepower and 1,164 Newton-meters of torque.The aforementioned plans of the German marque’s local arm were shared with Zigwheels Philippines through an interview with Mercedes-Benz Philippines General Manager Maricar Parco during the launch of the GLC 350e PHEV and E-Class 350e PHEV.
“In the second half of this year, we will continually build our PHEV portfolio, and you will see at least two more models. You will find the G-Class electric vehicle (EV) somewhere in between,” Parco said.
No further details for the upcoming G-Class EV and the other two PHEV models were shared by the Mercedes-Benz PH executive, but she guaranteed that more information will come out in due time.

Previously, Mercedes-Benz PH Product and Training Assistant Vice President Benjamin Bautista disclosed that the local entry of the G-Class EV is really possible. But with the recent confirmation from Parco, fans of the brand will have something exciting to look forward to this year.

In other markets where it is available, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class G580 EV uses a quad-motor version of the brand’s EQ powertrain technology. In total, it has the following maximum output figures:

The model also has an estimated range of around 470 kilometers, a two-speed automatic transmission, and a zero to 60 kilometers per hour acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds.
While it utilizes a more sustainable method of propulsion, the German carmaker says that it has maintained the same off-road capability as its internal combustion siblings. Specifically, it is still built on a ladder frame chassis, along with a 4x4 system achieved by setting one electric motor to provide power for each of its wheels.

Additionally, the G-Class G580 EV was kitted out with virtual differential locks, an intelligent off-road crawl function, and a solid De-Dion suspension system for its rear axle.
The model also features the G-Turn, which provides it with the ability to perform “tank turns.” Simply put, it enables the sport utility vehicle to spin itself around on its axis by as much as 360 degrees. The vehicle can do the said move because it can individually control each of its four electric motors.
Being a Mercedes-Benz nameplate, the G-Class G580 EV likewise boasts a cushy interior equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, leather upholstery, a 64-color ambient lighting system, power sunroof, and many other creature comforts.
