Mercedes-Benz pickup to make global debut on October 25

MANILA: The demand of strong, capable and aggressive pickups is increasing at a significant rate and each automaker is trying to have their strong grip in the segment in different markets. Even the luxury brands are looking to explore this segment and the first brand which is all set to reveal its pickup is the Mercedes-Benz. According to a French publication, the German automaker will soon reveal the luxed-up pickup truck on next Tuesday, on October 25. After that, the pickup might be showcased at the Sao Paulo Motor Show 2016 in Brazil.

While the presence of Mercedes at the show is confirmed, the manufacturer has not given any official statement about the showcase of the much-awaited pickup truck. The upcoming pickup from Mercedes is expected to be named either GLT or X-Class but, one thing which is confirmed about the pickup is that the ride quality will be much more refined than the existing players in the market, as it will be getting that additional X-factor from the Merc. The pickup is based on the ladder frame of the Nissan Navara NP300 and Renault Alaskan and the production of this Merc pickup might be handled by either Nissan Motor Iberica in Spain or Nissan Santa Isabel in Argentina.

Apart from upmarket exterior styling, refined NVH level, comfortable interior and smooth suspension, the pickup from Mercedes is expected to feature a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine as standard. Much information is not revealed yet but, we expect that Mercedes will share further details at the official debut of the pickup. Just like any other market, the Philippines market is also witnessing an improved demand for pickups and considering the potential of this market, Mercedes might introduce its sturdy pickup in our country as well. The X-Class or GLT pickup will be the next big thing for Mercedes just like the S550e which will be featuring wireless charging technology.
