Monopoly introduces new Nurburgring-themed version for racing enthusiasts
MANILA: Monopoly has always strived to offer a little bit of everything to fans. Long have they left the original streets and railroads that first made the board game a party staple. The well-known board game has been releasing various themed renditions of the game ranging from movies and television to landmarks and pop culture, and even video games, with a Fortnite-themed board being one of their most recent releases. This time they’re taking inspiration from Germany’s infamous Green Hell.

Monopoly recently revealed a new themed board designed especially for petrol-heads and car enthusiasts. The Monopoly Nurburgring features various areas of the 12.9-mile Northern Loop or Nordschleife race circuit,
which has produced some of the most notorious crash compilation videos and record-breaking feats in racing. Right in the middle of the board is an artwork of the Nurburgring’s most famous corner, the Karusell. It’s also the priciest piece of land in the game.

The concept of the game is hasn’t changed but, this time, players compete to buy sections of the race track. This means you can have a slice of the Flugplatz, the Steilstrecke, the Flanzgarten, and the Schwalbenschwanz. The Karusell and the Brünnchen are both the most prominent properties in the game,
taking the place of the Boardwalk and Park Place. On the other hand, the Bergwerk and Galgenkopf are positioned in the low-rent areas of the board. Players can also purchase the grandstands and stadiums — similar to the four railway stations in the original version of the game.
A new set of figurines and tokens are also being introduced particularly for this version. Instead of the usual iron or cannon, players can choose between a tire, a wheel gear, an impact wrench, an F1 racing car, or a helmet.
The board game also comes with 28 ownership cards, 16 community cards, 16 event cards, and the standard set of Monopoly currency. Key features of the game such as the jail, a free parking spot, police, and a Go square are also still present.

If you’re already excited to buy this game, there are a few things to take note of. For one, the entire game is printed in German — from the property squares to the community cards. The game is also currently on sale exclusively on the Nurburgring website, priced at €44.95 (approximately $50).
This is Monopoly’s second edition of a Nurburgring-themed board. The first edition featured vintage cars and a dark-themed border. As of today, it is no longer in production.
