MPT South, PAWS to address cases of stray animals wandering tollways

MANILA: Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to address cases of stray animals roaming the busy roads of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (Cavitex), Cavitex C5 Link, and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

MPT South and PAWS will collaborate to launch a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program called “Love Pets, Save Lives,” which will include responsible pet ownership seminars, free spaying and neutering (kapon) services, and free vitamins for underprivileged pet owners in MPT South communities.

“This is a milestone for MPT South in addressing and providing a more sustainable and humane solution to the issue of stray animals in our expressways. As we collaborate with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society, we aim to resolve this by providing responsible pet ownership seminars and providing free spay and neuter services,” MPT South President and General Manager Raul Ignacio stated.

“Love Pets, Save Lives” will be launched at Don Galo Sports Complex in Parañaque City later this week in collaboration with the local government units of Barangay Don Galo and Barangay La Huerta.

“We at the Philippine Animal Welfare Society are honored to be partners of MPT South for its ‘Love Pets, Save Lives’ program. It is the first of its kind for an expressway developer to launch an animal welfare program. This, in itself, breaks barriers and gives hope for an organization like PAWS — that more and more companies are seeing the wisdom of a preventive approach to the stray problem,” PAWS Executive Director Anna Cabrera said.

PAWS is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to the protection and promotion of fair treatment of all animals. It believes that offering free or low-cost Kapon to pets is the most sustainable solution to pet homelessness.

MPT South is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road development arm of Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC). Aside from Cavitex, Cavitex C5 Link, and CALAX, MPTC also has concession rights for North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), NLEX Connector Road, and Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
