New Audi Q5 with updated styling and tech arrives in PH

MANILA: Audi Philippines launches the new Q5, the carmaker's best-selling SUV. The new Q5 is touted to possess "sportier design and updated features and technologies," and is a Top Safety Pick+ of the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). 

The new Q5 comes in two variants: the gasoline-powered S Line TFSI and the diesel-powered S Line TDI.

The new Q5 has been restyled with new Matrix LED headlamps with dynamic turn signals. The headlights' adaptable high beam promises greater illumination without dazzling other road users. Part of the styling update is what Audi calls a wider "Singleframe" octagonal grille, and the taller side air intakes wearing trapezoidal insets. 

Viewed from the side, the new Q5 features redesigned sill inserts to complement the raised ride height. The SUV’s rear end gets a new trim element between the light clusters, a new diffuser insert with a horizontal fin, and an S Line roof spoiler.

The new Q5 S Line TFSI comes with a black appearance package, black roof rails, and 21-inch wheels in five-twin-spoke module design. The new Q5 S Line TDI has aluminum roof rails and 20-inch with 10-Y-spoke design. 

Inside the new Q5, a sculptural trim inlay separates the lower and upper sections of the dashboard, which complement the new freestanding MMI touch display.

Intuitive technologies fitted to the latest versions are the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus that provides infotainment and vehicle function displays in high-resolution, full-color graphics, and the MMI navigation plus with MMI touch response, which controls navigation, climate, and various driver-assist functions via the touchscreen display.

Also accessed through the MMI system are controls and display for the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D Sound.

Among the features in the new Q5 include leather sport seats in front, flat-bottom leather steering wheel with multifunction controls,  three-zone climate control system, air quality package, ambient LED interior lighting package, rear window sunshades, and a USB charging for rear passengers. The S Line illuminated aluminum scuff plates add style inside the new Q5, 

The new Q5 received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award after the SUV earned “Good” ratings in all six crashworthiness evaluations, and “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, Audi Philippines says. 

A model must also be equipped with headlights which the IIHS considers as either “Good” or “Acceptable” across all trims and packages, the company added. 

Powering the new Q5 S Line TFSI is a two-liter, four-cylinder, turbo gasoline engine producing 265hp and 370Nm. The Q5 S Line TDI is equipped with a two-liter, four-cylinder, turbodiesel engine that outputs 204hp and 400Nm. Both gasoline and diesel engines are matched to a seven-speed S-Tronic transmission, which sends power to a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

The TFSI and TDI engines also feature a mild hybrid system to lower fuel consumption. A starter/generator with a compact lithium-ion battery recuperates braking energy, then stores this in the battery. The mild hybrid system enables the new Q5 to coast with the engine off, and allows for start-stop mode at speeds below 22kph.
