Nissan creates €2.5-M fund for Ukraine relief

MANILA: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is establishing a €2.5 million fund to support the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The company's top priority has always been people's safety and well-being, and the Nissan Cares fund will support affected employees and their families and contribute to larger initiatives to support the people of Ukraine.

Through the fund, Nissan will donate €1 million to the Red Cross and other non-profit organizations to support ongoing emergency operations that provide lifesaving assistance and basic necessities to families and children during this difficult time. The company is also willing to donate vehicles where it can.

Nissan has allocated a further €1.5 million to provide financial stability and continued support to Nissan employees and their families who have been affected by the crisis. It aims to support individual situations, including relocation expenses, living expenditures for displaced families, medical expenses, and special assistance for children.

Employees and partners who want to offer any assistance can donate to the Nissan Cares special fund, through monetary donations or supplies like food and clothing.

In a statement, Nissan Chief Executive Officer Makoto Uchida said, “We have all been moved by the suffering of so many people and families — including members of our own Nissan family. We have created the Nissan Cares fund to stand by our employees, and to support the international efforts working around the clock to respond to this immeasurable human tragedy.”

Nissan has already suspended vehicle exports to Russia, and expects that production at its St. Petersburg plant will be halted soon.
