3 reasons to like the Nissan X-Trail e-POWER

Nissan Motor Philippines (NMP) has brought back the X-Trail at the 10th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) as an all-new e-POWER model. And with this introduction, the Japanese marque has solidified its stance not just in the local compact crossover scene, but also in the ever-growing hybrid crossover segment.

From the get-go, those familiar with the X-Trail nameplate will surely have had their nostalgia engines (and possibly even their wallets) fired up. The all-new Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, after all, is a grand follow-up to the older third-generation (T32) version that was discontinued in the market back in 2022. 

But for those who didn’t grow up or are unfamiliar with the Nissan X-Trail, why would you buy one? Let’s find out here. 

Efficient performance

Propelling the latest version of the Nissan X-Trail for the Philippine market is a bigger version of the e-POWER system that is also found on the smaller, currently available Nissan Kicks. Specifically, it uses a 1.5-liter inline-three gasoline engine connected to a 1.85-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, an automatic single-speed gear-reduction transmission, and an AC3 synchronous motor. 

As previously observed on the Kicks e-POWER, the one on the new X-Trail uses its internal combustion engine as a generator to charge its lithium-ion battery. The said battery, meanwhile, supplies its electric motor that drives the vehicle’s front wheels. 

In doing so, the X-Trail e-POWER is a 100 percent electric motor-driven vehicle. And yes, this means the usual electric vehicle (EV) driving characteristics, such as instant torque, smooth power delivery, and a smoother drive. 

Apart from those characteristics, Nissan says that this is quite an efficient system as well, with an estimated total driving range of over 1,000 kilometers. With that kind of overall range, the all-new X-Trail can fit the bill as a practical money-saving daily driver, or as a long-legged road-trip chariot capable of continuous driving fun. 

Speaking of driving fun, the all-new X-Trail’s e-POWER system can also produce up to 204 horsepower and 330 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. Sure, it isn’t the most powerful compact crossover in the market, but it belongs in the upper echelons for sure. 

Depending on the driver, all that extra power and torque can be useful for lugging around a full complement of passengers to destinations like Baguio City or Tagaytay. Some will also appreciate the relatively high output when driving briskly through curvy back roads. 

For stability and ride comfort, the Nissan-made crossover uses a front MacPherson strut suspension and a rear multi-link suspension. Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs for all four wheels.

Loads of amenities inside, out

Another key strength of the Nissan X-Trail e-POWER is the sheer number of features it has for both its interior and exterior. 

To start, the exterior of the crossover comes with a full complement of LED lighting fixtures, roof rails for extra utility and cargo space, a sunroof, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. 

These are packaged into an attractive sport utility vehicle-style body that’s 4,690 millimeters (mm) long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,725 mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,705 mm and a generous ground clearance of 204 mm. This isn’t up to par with many full-blown SUVs in the market, but it is more than capable of taking on road bumps and humps. 

Step inside the X-Trail e-POWER and one will be greeted by a well-arranged cabin fit for up to five occupants. Its primary features include leather upholstery, a triple-zone automatic climate control system, active noise canceling, power-adjustable front seats, a power tailgate, and a 40:20:40 split-folding second row.

Providing on-board entertainment inside the X-Trail is a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This display is connected to a six-piece speaker set, while topping up devices is done via USB Type-C ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad. 

The driver, on the other hand, has access to these amenities:

Safety-wise, the all-new Nissan X-Trail e-POWER is no slouch. This, of course, is another reason to get this car, especially for those looking to turn it into a family daily. 

On the passive side, the electrified Nissan crossover comes with six airbags, anti-lock braking, brake assist, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, an anti-theft system, front and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. 

Its active suite of advanced driver-assist systems, meanwhile, is known as the Nissan Intelligent Mobility, and it consists of:
