PH auto industry YTD sales surpass 300K-unit mark in Aug.

MANILA: Estimated year-to-date sales for the Philippines automotive industry is likely 300,550 units, with the majority coming from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

Based on their joint report, members of the two organizations collectively retailed 271,336 vehicles in the first eight months of 2026 and the remainder was contributed outside their respective spheres.

Amid contributing huge numbers, their sales performance for the January-August this year is still down 11 percent compared to their 305,381-unit churn for the same period in 2025.

Last month alone, CAMPI and TMA sold 29,611 units—down by nearly 21 percent versus July 2026’s 37,319-vehicle retail output.

Still providing the biggest share is the commercial vehicle segment, selling 216,306 units and taking almost 80 percent share of the CAMPI-TMA market. On the other hand, 55,030 vehicles under the passenger car category were distributed to customers since the start of the year until the end of August this year.  

Per CAMPI, the August new vehicle sales slowdown was due to severe weather conditions that disrupted dealership operations and consumer activities.

“We're still optimistic that vehicle sales will bounce back over the next few months through year-end. The August dip appears to be a short-term disruption rather than a reversal of market momentum,” CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza was quoted as saying.

Amid such a case, electrified vehicle sales (xEV) continue to grow with the overall sales was estimated to reach 74,600 units year-to-date—more than doubling the industry’s  performance in the January-August 2025 timeline and cornering 34.5 percent of the total industry sales, second only to April, when the market share peaked at 37.2 percent.

“The continued growth in xEV adoption highlights the strong potential of the market,” Atienza added.

Maintaining its market leadership is Toyota Motor Philippines with 133,300 units sold and holding 49.13-percent share followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 46,162 units.

Suzuki Philippines is still at third spot in the CAMPI-TMA leaderboard with 12,301 vehicles delivered to clients. The same sales volume allowed the Japanese marque’s local arm to be the fourth best-selling automotive brand in the country as BYD Cars Philippines—which is not a member of CAMPI—took the third place by  selling 28,399 units in the first eight months of 2026.

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Philippines rolled out 9,517 vehicles to buyers sat at fourth place.

Surprisingly, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated and grabbed the fifth place away from Nissan Philippines after the former sold 8,953 units compared to the latter’s 8,670.

Notably, Vinfast Philippines overtook Hyundai Motor Philippines for the ninth spot, with the Korean marque’s distributor dropping to 10th place.
