CAMPI-TMA May 2026 YTD sales down by 12%

167K-unit retail performance means group has some catching up to do

CAMPI-TMA May 2026 YTD sales down by 12%

MANILA: Barely halfway through the year, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) still have some catching up to do, as their year-to-date sales as of May remain down by more than 10 percent.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many cars did the member brands of CAMPI sell from January-May 2026?

From the said period, CAMPI brand members sold 167,324 units.
  • By how much did xEV year-on-year sales grow?

CAMPI brand members saw a 133.5 percent year-on-year increase in sales for xEVs.
  • Based on their joint report, the two organizations collectively retailed 167,324 examples, which is 12.1-percent lower than the 190,429 vehicles turned over to customers during the same period the previous year.

However, in May alone, CAMPI-TMA delivered 33,532 four-wheelers to their respective clients, reflecting nearly 24 percent growth compared to April 2026 sales output of 27,089 units.

The commercial vehicle segment continued to account for the largest share of sales, with 134,882 units sold, representing 80.61 percent of the market. This figure reflected an 11 percent decline from the 151,704 units sold during the January-May 2025 timeline.

Passenger cars accounted for the remaining 19.39 percent of the market, with 32,442 units sold during the first five months of 2026—a 16.2 percent decline from the same period last year.

According to CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza, fuel prices becoming more stable helped boost the demand for conventional internal combustion engine vehicles last month.

“Our overall market outlook has improved with actual vehicle sales performing better than previously expected despite the fuel crisis,” he added.

    xEV sales grow

While the overall sales are still below last year’s levels, the electrified vehicle (xEV) segment continued showing strong growth.

As seen in the same report, CAMPI-TMA xEV sales surged 133.5 percent year-on-year as their sales for January to May this year reached 24,356 units.

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) had the lion’s share in the CAMPI-TMA xEV market, cornering 62.81 percent after selling 15,299 units.

Battery electric vehicles (BEV) ranked second with 5,204 examples sold (21.37-percent share) while plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) completed the segment's total with 3,853 units sold.

Atienza noted that the accelerating growth trend is being constrained by vehicle availability, which is the result of the sudden surge in demand.
