“After our performance at the first APMC in 2023 where we brought home respectable results, we saw an opportunity. Sizing up the competition then, we knew we stood a very good chance to dominate. With our small team of eleven drivers in the various disciplines, we showed the region what we can achieve and we proudly brought home the much-coveted Nations Cup Champion trophy. With this we will be attending the next APMC in 2027 as defending champions, and that we will aim to maintain,” he told Zigwheels Philippines in an interview.
“I am pleased to be part of making history. We have the skill and talent and whatever opportunities I missed back then when I was a driver, I am very happy to be part of being able to open doors to our current generation of Filipino racing drivers,” he added.
For his part, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) President Mohammed Ben Sulayem lauded the team’s as well as the other participants’ performances.
"I congratulate Team Philippines on their well-deserved victory and to every competitor who competed across the six disciplines,” he said.
Per FIA, the championship — which is hosted by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) at the SpeedBay Circuit in Bandaragama — placed the former’s values of inclusivity, accessibility and affordability at the heart of the event and demonstrated the power of regional events to inspire and drive motor sport participation.””
Already in its second edition, the event also became memorable as a locally-built FIA Affordable Cross Car was unveiled. The group also noted the inclusion of three karting categories, e-sports and the use of everyday vehicles like the Hyundai Grand i10 in Auto Gymkhana also proved that high-level motor sport doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag.
"The Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship has shown the power of motorsport to unite a region. I thank Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) for organizing a brilliant championship that has delivered world-class competition and demonstrated how motorsport can be affordable, inclusive and accessible to all,” the FIA president mentioned.
Meanwhile, FIA Secretary General for Sport Valerio Iachizzi also congratulated the event organizers for pulling off such a program.
“APMC has brought together the entire region in an incredible display of the power of motor sport to unite and inspire. It was an honor to be in Sri Lanka for the Championship and I’d like to thank CMSC for their incredible organization which has set a new standard for regional motor sport events across the world.”
