Nissan to supply GEN4 powertrains to Andretti Formula E

MANILA: Nissan Motor Corporation will supply the Andretti Formula E racing team with its GEN4 powertrains from Season 13 onwards.

According to the Japanese carmaker, the agreement brings together two of the most established and competitive organizations in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and creates a strong platform for technical collaboration throughout the series’ next era.

“Formula E continues to play an important role within Nissan’s global electrification strategy. Our collaboration with Andretti Formula E and TWG Motorsports supports our goals in the sport and strengthens our commitment to the championship. We look forward to leveraging each other’s expertise to achieve success on and off the track, demonstrating our leadership in our respective industries and generating excitement for audiences around the world,” Nissan Motor Corporation Chief Performance Officer Guillaume Cartier was quoted as saying.

Nissan X Andretti

Per the Yokohama-headquartered auto firm, Formula E is a key pillar of its global electrification strategy. As such, becoming successful in the single-seater electric formula car championship is an important part of Nissan’s long-term ambitions.

Working alongside such an experienced and competitive customer team further strengthens Nissan’s position in the sport and commitment to the series as it enters its next chapter.

Meanwhile, Andretti Formula E is considered one of the sport’s longest-standing competitors. The outfit has consistently competed at the front of the field and has secured the 2023 FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Championship with Jake Dennis. 

“Formula E remains an important part of our global motorsports strategy, and partnering with Nissan for the GEN4 era is a significant step for Andretti Formula E. Nissan has established itself as one of the Championship’s leading competitors, and we believe this partnership provides a strong foundation to compete for race wins and championships,” Andretti Global President Jill Gregory noted.

Beyond supplying powertrains, Nissan and Andretti Formula E will work closely throughout the GEN4 era, combining technical expertise, engineering knowledge and sporting experience.

Currently, there are four Nissan-powered cars competing in the series. On that note, the collaboration will create valuable opportunities for technical exchange and continuous development, helping both organizations maximize performance in one of world motorsport’s most competitive championships.

Further, the partnership also benefits from the expertise of two FIA Formula E Drivers’ World Champions. Reigning title holder Oliver Rowland and Andretti Formula E’s Jake Dennis will both contribute their experience and technical feedback as the partnership develops through the GEN4 era.

Echoing his excitement was Andretti Formula E Team Principal Roger Griffiths, who commented: “With a motorsports legacy lasting over 80 years and multiple wins and championships across a diverse range of categories including the current Formula E World Drivers’ Championship, Nissan has more than proven its pedigree at the highest echelons of the sport. As an early pioneer of electric vehicles, Nissan has developed vast knowledge in this category and through their time in Formula E have shown how immensely competitive they can be. It’s these characteristics that align so well with the approach of Andretti Formula E and why we are extremely proud to be aligned with the Japanese manufacturer entering the highly anticipated GEN4 era in Formula E.”
