Quezon City begins 2nd round of road-clearing ops
MANILA: If you own a car and live in Quezon City but don’t have a parking lot, don’t even think about parking it on the street because the local government isn’t having any of it.
Quezon City Mayor, Joy Belmonte kicked off the city’s second round of road-clearing operations yesterday.
Based on the mayor’s Executive Order No. 9, Series of 2020, a Quezon City Task Force Road Clearing 2.0 was created and it directly reports to the Office of the Mayor.
“Ipagpapatuloy lang ang nasimulan nating road clearing operations noong nakaraang taon upang matiyak na ito’y tuluy-tuloy at matututukan nang husto. (We are just continuing the road clearing operations we started last year to ensure its progression and focus more on this),” said Belmonte.
This effort by the Quezon City local government is still part of the Department of Interior and Local Government’s Memorandum Circular No. 2020-27, which mandates the continued implementation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to clear roads of illegal obstructions and ensure efforts to maintain the cleared roads are sustained.
Under the DILG memo, all barangay chairmen are in charge of the road clearing operations along barangay roads and minor public-use streets within their jurisdiction.
Barangay heads are also tasked to maintain other local roads turned over by the city government.
QC residents are urged to cooperate. Citizens are also being asked to report violators via the city’s Facebook account.
“Kunan niyo ng larawan o video at ipadala at i-tag ang official Facebook account ng siyudad na fb.com/qcgov (Take a photo or video and send it and tag our official Facebook account fb.com/qcgov),” added Belmonte.
Aside from posting it on the city’s official Facebook page, residents can also report abusive traffic enforcers via Hotline 122.
Belmonte is personally leading the task force while her chief of staff and assistant city administrator for operations acts as vice chairpersons.
The point person will be the head of the Barangay and Community Relations Department.
“It (the task force) will also extend necessary support and exact accountability and impose sanctions against non-supportive or non-compliant local officials and employees,” Belmonte said.
