GAC’s new local arm eyes to join CAMPI

MANILA: After consolidating all its brands under one company, GAC International Philippines is planning to join the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Incorporated (CAMPI).

In an interview, GAC International Philippines Chief Brand Officer Reginald See disclosed the company’s target of taking part in the 29-company strong group as soon as possible.

“We are currently in the process of completing all the requirements for us to join CAMPI. Hopefully, we can finish it the soonest possible time,” See told Zigwheels Philippines.

Should GAC International Philippines be able to join CAMPI within the early first half of the year, they might have the time to take part in the Philippine International Motor Show that will happen on June 4-7, 2026.

To note, Astara Philippines — the Chinese automaker’s previous distributor locally — was a member of CAMPI.

According to CAMPI, one of the requirements to be a member of the association is that the firm must be registered in the Board of Investments under the country’s vehicle manufacturing program.

Recently, the CAMPI had its formal leadership turnover late last month — with Jose Maria Atienza (Toyota Motor Philippines’ current executive vice president for marketing) receiving the top role from his predecessor Atty. Rommel Gutierrez (the group’s leader since 2012).

Meanwhile, See noted that the company is eyeing to participate in the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (scheduled on April 9-12). With that, we are expecting that it would introduce some — if not all — of the six-to-eight models that it is eyeing to bring in the country.
