Report: Minimum rate for jeepneys back to P9 in April

MANILA: The government has approved the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) recent proposal to reduce the cost of using public transit.

According to ABS-CBN News, the minimum rate for traditional jeepneys traveling through Metro Manila would be set at P9 starting in April. From the current rate of P12, this is a P3 decrease. Meanwhile, the fare for modernized jeepneys will be P11. Bus rates will be decreased by about P3 or P4 from the present amount. According to the article, further cuts to UV Express routes are still being considered.

Prior to being implemented throughout the country, the reductions will be in effect in Metro Manila for a period of six months beginning in April. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) claims that it is getting ready to adjust its budget in order to account for these impending discounts.
