Rolls-Royce Takes its Spectre EV On A 2.5 Million km Road Trip

MANILA: The Spectre, an electric super coupé by Rolls-Royce, completed a rigorous 2.5 million-kilometer testing program simulating over 400 years of usage. The vehicle endured extreme conditions such as -40°C to +50°C temperatures, deserts, mountain passes, and busy urban areas, marking the toughest testing in Rolls-Royce's 120-year history.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre underwent the Lifestyle Analysis process, which is a distinctive testing method used by the brand for all its new products in the Goodwood era. This approach considers how customers would use the vehicle in their daily lives, going beyond standard automotive evaluations.

Lifestyle Analysis combines the automaker's expertise, understanding of super-luxury consumers, and ongoing collection of luxury market information. This ensures that engineers anticipate unique demands and tailor the experience with the right features and responses.

Engineers analyzed Spectre's powertrain performance on roads in affluent areas like Sanya Island, Dubai, Napa Valley, and London, considering important factors for Rolls-Royce customers. In the Lifestyle Analysis phase, testing included enhancements such as gyroscopic and G-force sensors to ensure smooth door operation on steep hills similar to Los Angeles driveways.

Rolls-Royce's residence in Goodwood, West Sussex, features a switchback known as "Spectre Corner." This corner has gained its name due to its frequent use for testing the steering precision of the Rolls-Royce Spectre, which the engineers claim is the most precise in the company's history.

The Spectre stands out with its sleek fastback silhouette, reminiscent of iconic historical vehicles. Its seamless greenhouse surface helps achieve the lowest drag coefficient ever recorded for a Rolls-Royce. The tail lamps are located on the largest single-body panel ever created for the brand, stretching from the A-pillar to the luggage compartment along the roofline.

The vertical tail lamps of Spectre are colorless, allowing customers to choose different colors during the commissioning phase. They match the bodywork's flow and have a precise, compact design that extends from the powerful shoulders to the tapered tail section.

As Spectre nears its final stage in the second quarter of 2023, the power, acceleration, and range figures are still being refined. Preliminary data suggests that the 430kW Spectre powertrain will generate 900Nm of torque and offer a 520km all-electric range. It is expected to achieve a 0-100kph acceleration in 4.5 seconds.
